Actually, they had a bunch of Instagram photographers covering NY Fashion Week a few weeks ago, with full credentials, so it's already happened.

If Canon & Nikon released smartphones, they'd be a lot more complicated to use!

I avoided Instagram for awhile, but finally figured, do I really take myself that seriously that I can't have some fun with my iPhone? I don't, so now I use it all the time. But I would (probably) never consider anything I do with it as real photography.

I have to admit, I have just acquired an Android like phone. Eh. And it takes snaps. What app do you suggest ;-)

Yes, he makes some good points, but he really needs to get his hair cut if he wants us to take him seriously.

If Carlsberg did iPhone cameras it would be made of wood and brass, have bellows, a large lens on the front and take sheets of film... ;)

I'm on Instagram on my android phone. I use it to take snaps of cats. I don't bother with the filters.

Just pure unfiltered CATS.

For surely that is the sole purpose of Instagram?

Gothamtomato - REALLY? for Fashion Week? Good gravy.  ;D

So, I digress:  Sean's instagrams are high art!  :)
I too have begrudgingly tried out the photo apps (**though I do not own a cell phone) and have to admit - they are... I hate to say... satisfyingly fun!  I have a handful or more of them that I really like.

I haven't used Instagram, only because it appears that I have to turn on location services to use? (I've clearly got control issues - don't want to share my location in order to use software).

Totally hardcore. Don't try it at home kidz.

I follow Sean on IG too, he's very very good. I however just like to snap cats and my neighbours mental garden.

and my neighbours mental garden.

A mental garden? Sounds interesting. My neighbour has a psychological allotment that I've been keen to shoot some film in.  :P

Pretty sure you aren't required to use location services in instagram. I do, but i don't care if people know where i am!

I've been using my wife's old Android phone for a couple of weeks and have been Instagraming the heck out of it. I like the way Instagram links up nicely with my Tumblr blog. I take snaps of my kids which are automgically uploaded to Tumblr (with artistic filters applied - natch) and my distributed family gets to see them. Today was sports day. There were lots of pictures taken  :)

Like Sean, I too don't regard these pictures as having anything to do with what I think of as photography....therefore the whole 'is it art?' 'is it photography?' debate doesn't bother me in the slightest. Also, this stuff's been available on smart phones for a good few years, so it's hardly worth talking about now...surely? Euge makes a good point re Hipstamatic for instance.

BUT, I loved this video. It's not as funny as the other one, but it was still very enjoyable.

Yes, they chose a group of the Instagramers with the biggest followings and had them shoot Fashion Week fully credentialed. One of them is someone I know, Bryant Eslava, he's a young fashion photographer, still in school actually (and shoots both film and digital), who has developed a big online following. There was a story during fashion week. If I can find it I'll post a link.

I think it's that Instagram has become the latest social media marketing buzzword quite recently (and as we all know, nothing exists until marketing people get hold of it - see also Twitter).

Had an account for quite a while - Terrorkitten, but, I have only started uploading to it in the last week or two.  A friend on a recent trip to Texas taked me into it. I am always taking phone shots so it is nice to have a place to share them. Kinda nice not having to edit, spot, scan etc!
