That is the funniest thing I've read for weeks. Even funnier as I walked past one of these dweebs shooting the gherkin with a Lubitel on Monday and having a right time trying to load it / get the back closed. His trousers were so tight you could almost determine his religion.

"Here at Hipster Photographer Rescue we give these kids options, and make them see that lurking self-consciously on street corners, wearing a messenger bag filled with old cameras, cigarettes, a James Joyce novel, organic cashews and a Macbook Pro, does not make you a professional photographer"

Damn!!!!That's where I've been going wrong!!

Mauricio....you beat me to it. I just came here to link to the same article and saw that you were here already. It's hilarious isn't it?

Now.....where's my Polaroid and my floppy fringe?

Hi-lar-ious!
I think I better get my instax out, put on vintage shades, take out my Sony Mylo (I don't follow trends), and shoot something hip...

It was the very first piece of news I read in the morning, it was too good to miss Ed  ;D ;D

I quite like when they mention" pausing to crack the plastic case of his new Lomograph camera to create light leaks."

By the way, this website have some funny things... I also like the arcticle "Rio panics, didn’t know it was hosting 2016 Olympics"...  To be honest, they're not that wrong!

Did you offer to help or just laugh and walk by?

How many people that buy “vintage cameras” expect it to make them a “professional photographer”?

People that buys L lenses, I think they believe it makes them a professional photographer but a vintage cameras; I don’t think so.

I was on my way to a business meeting and running late or I would have offered some assistance. However, I'm not sure this individual was in the frame of mind to listen.

"Professional photographer" means earning a living from the activity and only "infers" that the user might be good at the job. Very few professional photographers will use vintage kit other than for specialist work where digital doesn't offer the same "look" or quality.

I believe that "clothes maketh not the man" and "fancy kit maketh not the photographer". Still. it's fun to use the old film stuff and expensive glass, eh...??

As a child I would marvel at "kit". It was alien to me as my home was a photography dessert. When I asked my dad about some chap's camera in the mid 70's with various lenses why Dadjust scoffed and said "phffft, it's all just men's jewellery".

Luckily I found Zenit :-)

I still tend to hide my jewellery in bags, but love tight jean.

I think the piece uses the term "professional photographer" to mean "successful artist photographer."

Hey hipsters --- "I was there when it was still cool!"
Buzzkill thought: maybe it's a schoolyard mistake to try and build oneself up by cutting down others, especially when they're just trying to have some fun and actually enjoying the medium that everyone else says is dead?

That said, I was doing it before it was hip!! Really!!

I nearly peed myself laughing when I read this

I see them around the streets of London all the time.

Maybe I will start a street photography project of trying to catch this breed of human before they all move onto the next "cred" thing
