Is this the world's most tasteless book cover?
« on: April 04, 2007, 06:28:49 PM »
Or is it merely a product of its time?   :o

Discuss.

I agree, cropping her head like that is unforgivable.

and why is the pink lady holding a bright light behind her head?

all very strange.  Was there a "photographing Gents" equivalent? No, hang on, that has a much more sinister connotation.

You've done well there. My prize for selection of most tasteless prints inside a book goes to Ian Parker's Complete Rollei TLR User's Manual, which offers creative gems such as topless woman photographed through a UV filter smeared with milk.

However, is this the spookiest cover...?

Both. But I think you've set people off to find books that equal this sort of elegance and refinement. i look forward to seeing what others can show us!

Actually, what feels weird to me is the "special effects" section... dedicated to plastic surgery ???

How old is that book anyways?

No, this is
(a book on photo special effects... I never know which eye to look at, and it always looks like they're out of alignment :) )

Sheesh!  >:( :o :(
That's as tastless as it gets Ailsa.  ;D
I don't have any in my collection that can top that prime painted on eyebrow job.
But there is one that I have that rings a bell....I'll try to find it. It has some famous actress on the cover prior to her being famous. And it's shot in a typical 1970's or 80's schlocky lighting manner. But I can't recall who it was...I'm thinking it's Tony Soprano's shrink who also plays Ray Liotta's wife in Good Fellas --can't recall her name. Or was it Annette Benning? Okay...They look nothing alike, but they are both stuck in my mind as doing photo book covers I have stored somewhere. Or was it some other before she was a star actress? Hmmm....I'll see if I can dig it up.

I completely agree with you, Ailsa. A font like that is just unforgiveable, and black velvet is so passe.

Sean - Well, at least he got my good side...

You know, I think those pink leotards are making a comeback this season...

Susan, do you mean Lorraine Bracco?

I'm not sure. I'll check when I get home tonight. And if you're all very well behaved, I might scan you some pages from the inside...

We should make a special theme night:
We all watch Jane Fonda on Betamax while listening to Olivia Newton-John's Physical vinyl LP :)

Yes, it all brings back memories...
Even if it sounds ultra tacky, I just loved the 80's

Yikes! Something went wrong with the 1980s, that is for sure. I've got a Peter Gowland pocket book from about 1952 that does it better than this. I suppose he is a pro though. Skj.

Now girls – own up – we've all been caught short at one time or another, particularly when exploring a derelict house. But really – for it to happen when you're wearing just your thong and party sandals, AND when there's a photographer in the vicinity? That's just downright careless.

Re: Girl Caught Short: Could she be coming out of a very small "Ladies Room"?  Maybe there wasn't any toilet paper
and she was hurrying over to the other door...I'm sure that's what was happening--and the
photographer just happened to be there...

Really ladies, the answer is quite obvious to anyone who's used the lavatory facilities at a rock festival! Believe me, it's far, far worse in the Gents!  :o ;D
