Tis the start of the Olympic Weekend...
« on: July 26, 2012, 07:27:46 AM »
Team GB has its first victory (1-0 against NZ in the womens soccer) but not all the natives in the locale are happy... And the farce of showing the S.Korean flag to the N.Koreans soccer team had me screaming out loud... Classico...

Nice one Miller. Great photos and I nearly burst a lung laughing at the Scots posting the wrong flag at the footie in Glasgow. Of all the flags they could have put up, it had to be their nearest and most deadliest enemy's, eh?  :o

We're out of here (City of London) like a champagne cork after work tomorrow evening as there's no way we want to be within 50 miles of the build up to the opening ceremony. I might watch a bit on telly but all that pomp and flag-waving isn't my cup of tea. I hope it's a massive financial boost for the UK, a great sporting spectacle and the best and least chemically-enhanced athletes win.

I do sincerely hope it works out financially for London. Considering the economy, a profit on this one would benefit pretty much everyone. But strangely, all the silly side of my brain keeps thinking about this morning is whether Ozzy Osbourne will be part of the opening ceremonies  :o and why he wasn't chosen to be the spokesperson for the anti-doping agency  ;)

Nice images and it's good to see the grafitti artists are taking all the hype in their stride.  Am picking up Mexican nephew from Heathrow tomorrow (that'll be fun!) and have tickets for the fencing on Saturday.  Can't wait.  Will smuggle my Holga 135BC past the paratroopers making sure we  don't bring any food in to the events as we are only allowed to eat Big Macs for the next month.

Wonder if I'll spot a G4S guard?  Also I want to write Tour de France style grafitti on the Olympic lanes.  Allez les officiels Olympiques!  Ou est le deficit?  Mind you I'd be shot by an over enthusiastic policeman so I probably won't.

Staying with the theme, here is a picture I took on my visit (back home) earlier in the month. The rings were up unfortunately. But you can still see them.

Fuji FP-100C recovered negative, Crown Graphic, 135mm Optar, front rise, hand held.

Great start Poliweb & That Mr Miller. We're off to Cornwall next week so should miss most of it, but may have to venture up to the South Bank this Saturday with the kids to meet friends. Can the Northern Line survive the Olympics when it can hardly survive rush hour?

Anyway, here's mine for this weekend; a gaggle of cousins and 2nd cousins. Bronica S2A + expired Polacolor 125i and home-made lens.

Some very cool polaroids here.
Can't continue the olympic theme, so here a few more shots from my recent trip to North Yorkshire.
All Rolleicord/FP4/Finol.
Happy weekend.

I'm please as punch that:

1. my echinacea is still alive
2. my last 40 shots of T55 are alive (so to speak)

Negative scan (RGB).  I'll have to see if I can replicate these colors with selective toning on a darkroom print....

Hookstrapped-superb first effort.  Continuing the olympic theme the first shot is a detail of the aquatic centre.  The rest are from alon the River Lea (part of an ongoing series)

Francois, wouldn't that be great...!!?? Ozzy as the MC would be THE highlight for me. Oh, please make it happen.... ;D

The BBC has released a 30-second "taster" of what's to come in the opening ceremony (truthfully) and it seems as if Danny Boyle has created something really special. However, the trailer also included what looked like a scene from some nightmarish "Carry On" film with a load of nurses boucing around on trampolines made to look like NHS beds.

Can't wait to watch the opening ceremony as it looks detined to be one of the most spectacular and surreal 3-hour bits of television ever.

Oh - BTW - great photos everyone.

Some of my favourites this week...

Miller - love em both
Nick - a classy set of Whitby images
Sean - your first image as quite special and by far my favourite this week
Gregor - beautiful, love that hint of colour at the bottom
Charles - look forward to seeing more of these
Lawrie - wonderful pinhole, just wish I'd taken it!
Hookstrapped - this rocks!
Phil - you are the master of Americana
Volker - full of humour!

In keeping with the Olympic theme I've decided to share some images taken at the Olympic rowing venue at Dorney Lake which just happens to be 5 minutes away from my home.

The main club house, Bronica SQAi & Velvia 50

Agfa Super Isolette, HP5

Training canoes, Agfa Super Isolette, Provia 400X

Drove from Canterbury to Mile End on Friday, took less than an hour, London was so quiet. It's a nice vibe around Stratford mind.

Miller's Tank, Sean's Bridge and Diane's shack are great.

As always a inspiring creative thread with some wonderful shots. For me Miller's two that started the thread, Nicks' pier shots
( and unusually ) for me Paul 's colour shots especially the training canoes are just the standout ones. but really great photos everyone!

Resident outside the Business Design Centre in Islington for the duration of the Olympics is "London Booster" by Czech artist David Cerny.

A bus that does press-ups by Antony J  Shepherd, on Flickr

It's a big red double-decker bus (but NOT a routemaster) that does press-ups. Really.
It's actually pretty impressive when you see it in action so if you're in the area I recommend you take a look.

This picture taken on Rollei Retro 80S film in my old Kodak Brownie 127.

Thank you.  It's cross-processed Ektachrome and it tends to go green but I wanted it to be red so I used tungsten light and it worked out.
