Roman Holiday
« on: March 30, 2007, 04:01:03 PM »
Having seen Ed's great shots from Albania, and anticipating his Morrocan ones, I wanted to share some recent photos from Rome. As I said in Ed's post, a holiday always helps me to think about the way I shoot. I have a new (old) Rolleicord which I have fallen in love with, expect more soon.

Thanks guys, the pyramid is one of my favourites too - it's the most bizarre thing to come across in the middle of Rome, amidst all the columns and ruins.

It's nice to be posting here again.  :)

Some minor Leon-esque work on the pyramid sky would really make it pop me thinks. Nice.

Weird, how did I not know you were on Flickr? Hmmm. Have added you as a special chum....I know, I know, it's made your day  ;)

Anyway, of these the first two I like, but the pyramid in particular is excellent. I think you could make more of it in the printing/scanning (I know you do both) stage though. It needs to leap out at me a bit more, but I love the contrast of textures between the stone and the sky.

Holidays are good for photo-ing aren't they.

I must admit my post-production skills are not so hotso - I'm better in the darkroom than the lightroom but even there my abilities are somewhat lacking :'(
I've signed up to do a darkroom workshop with Mike Crawford (via B&W mag) so I might take these negs along and see what magic he can work.

Glad you like the photos though.

Thanks

Janet
