Film Cameras Still in Production
« on: June 20, 2012, 08:39:13 PM »
Camera-Wiki has started a list of film cameras still in production.

http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Category:Film_cameras_still_in_production

They have said that it's still a work in progress, I wonder whether we could suggest any models to be added?

My contribution would be the Leica MP (which is a fact it would be better for my wallet that I didn't know!)

(interesting that Nikon make two and Canon don't seem to make any)

Their definition of 'in production' might be different, but it won't be too long before the first Lynch Surveyor is ready for sale.

Thanks, Charles.  I've since made a few refinements to this prototype but have started cutting parts for the next.

That is simply gorgeous!  I love the design of that little clip for the dark slide (did you hand grind it)....that's downright sexy.
Beautiful!

I'm still working on it. Nigel, the Canon EOS-1(v) was added. But cameras still available and cameras we have an article for are completely different. I wrote 4 articles already to make the list better. Yes, the MP is still available... but the existing article is crap atm. One photo and links, few months ago, no photo. Will try to work on that add a few sentences to the article and add it to the list later.

EDIT: I added some quick specs to the MP article and added it to the list, so the article is not so embarrassing. :D

This is a good idea, some of the articles are inaccurate (wiki) The Leica MP one states that it was introduced in 2003, but there was an MP made in 1956 too...
There's more to this photography thing than meets the eye.

I'm fully responsible for that article as I wrote it in 5 minutes and there was zero text about that camera before I added specs. I assumed it was about the later model based on links is that not accurate? Should the article be named something else or should a original MP be name something else? Should the MP article be made into a disambig page? Is there a common way to diff bt the two?

I know very little about leitz and have only written one other leitz camera article on the M5. I admit the leica section was just horrible 1 year ago before the takeover, as no one really wrote for it on the site. It has shown massive improvement, as before there was only articles on m3, m4, m4-p, most articles were empty stubs with links and a picture. Tried to invite others to work on them multiple times, but no one stepped forward. It is a loosely organized effort of a few and I have spent way too much time researching and writing for that wiki, 1 to 4 hours a day for the past year... EDIT: and a half.. bollocks. :D

1 - 4 hours a day? wow! That is a lot of work.

It is a resource I often use when browsing ebay... keep it up (if you have the time!)

it's some tremendous work you guys are doing! I've had some nice discussions with studioesper and I'm planning to donate again soon.
I just wish camera-wiki would come higher up on google searches :/  but that's why I added it as a search engine in my search bar :)

sorry for multi-nik confusion jonas, that is me you spoke with. I did write an additional GA645i article after the last time we spoke. http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Fujifilm_GA645i, the rest delayed a bit because the new category sparked extra research on Chinese camera manufacturer Phenix who manufacture the Kenko SLR you see in that category. As well as contacting a few manufacturers on availability of film cameras.

I added a zero, the only one we have an article for, that was still available. I wrote the harman titan article 3 days ago for that list. Not it's not just a list. If we dont have an article for it it wont be on the list unless someone creates one.

im wanting to expand the hasselblad 503 article a bit before adding it.

Lomography actually has a whole bunch now that I think are fair game to call individual cameras:

The Sardina in particular -- I'm told they take pretty good pictures, can't cough up for one just yet.
http://usa.shop.lomography.com/cameras/la-sardina-metal-edition-czar

On the same site you can also find the LomoKino, which is sort of a movie camera made from a crank-advancing 35mm still camera, and the new (as of last week) metal fisheye camera that takes 110.

Erik, I started some bits on La Sardina.

http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Lomography_La_Sardina

I was not motivated enough to expand it more, I'm also waiting for more La Sardina camera photos. I was also busy reworking the Bronica ETR pages http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Bronica_ETR

A few more cameras got added to the still available list
