platinum palladium contact printing?
« on: March 09, 2006, 05:44:22 PM »
In a race against time for platinum palladium knowledge. I won't go into detals, but must get a move on this asap.

Can anyone provide tips, tricks and experience how tos in terms of types of best papers, light sources and chemicals?

I'm considering making a UV lightbox or trying to find one right now. I would love to get the best set up I can for as little $ as possible.

I've read though many how to's but would love first hand knowledge from you guys. Thanks!

You might check out Keith Schreiber's work / website.  Very nice guy, great platinum/palladium printer.

I'm sure you've seen the Dan Burkholder stuff?  His book is very good, and he now has an update that gives you drag and drop PS templates for the platinum curves.

I tried this many years ago and was never able to get a good enough negative to make it work, so I'm not much help with the how tos.  I expect I'll be doing this myself as soon as I finish the darkroom, though.  sorry can't be more help in the short-term.

Thanks G! I'm multi-tasking and checking that site out as I type. You rock.

Theresa--I've read Dan Burkholder's book and have created several digital negs.
My question is mostly about the printing process, rather than the negs.
But thank you so much for your ideas. Much appreciated.

Just an fyi--Dan hasn't updated for the Epson 2400 K3 inks yet.
Which is what I have. So the drag and drip companion doesn't work unless you have a 2200 or various ultrachrome models

I did exchange emails with Dan re: this problem and he's working on it.
Supposedly, the K3 inks don't work well with the digi neg process.

Thanks again guys.

Check out a book by Dick Arentz.  Lots of helpful tips--specifically on printing.  He's doing a workshop in a couple of weeks in Flagstaff....

Just jump in with the info you have - the rest will make more sense after that! It is not as difficult nor expensive as most people would have us believe - but to master the process takes time and effort, and I've still a lot more tme to put in :)

Also worth a trawl through the alt processsection of APUG - lots of questions have been asked and answered there too!
