another sx-70 600 mod
« on: March 15, 2007, 06:21:37 AM »
hi all,

just discovered this thread over on flickr about modding the sx-70 to use 600 film. you simply pry off the retaining ring from around the electric eye, remove the little filter in there. put the ring back on and move your exposure control all the way over to darken and you can take pictures using 600 film without any filters. the thread has pictures illustrating this in case my words aren't clear. i just tried a test shot and it seems to work ok.

ps. my first test pasted below. the ansco readyflash with bulbs.

With peel-apart dissapearing, I've been meaning to get an SX-70/680/690 and get into integral film. Perhaps now is the time... Pity they no longer make monochrome 600-series film though either.

Me thinks I'll be getting the soldering iron out on an SX-70 though, and doing one of the many timing circuit mods. The ND over the lens certainly does not appeal, though this mod or the Blend filter option might also fly. Thanks! Skj.

Skorj, if anyone can find some (mono 600), you can! (and I'm betting when you do, it won't be just one pack either, probably a whole crate given your penchant for finding things camera and film-wise in "bulk"!)
Can I bags a pack when you do hit the motherlode?

there was one old exipred crumbly looking pack on ebay not so long ago,   at £50 with a few days to go.....madness...the chances of it working was miniscule!

i have a few packs of the sx blend stuff,  im sure its just 600 film with a filter over the top of the film pack,   i keep meaning to try it out!

The blend is based off of 600, but it has a different internal structure (I've taken a couple prints apart). There is an additional blue layer in it that gets closer to sx70 blues.
