Well "whadda ya know?"

Wise move for them as I see no point on designing and manufacturing entirely new designs when they can start with existing cameras, maybe redo the exterior, maybe add their own firmware and send it off.

I know there won't be that many people missing their camera line... though my mom's latest camera is somewhat surprisingly good for the 46$ she paid for it! It doesn't give the colors I like and get with good old Kodak Gold but still, it's pretty nice for the price.

As for living off their film business, all I can say is Pfew! I'm glad that is settled!

Oh yeah! I almost forgot... Welcome Christine :)

The scale of the irony that Kodak built the blueprint for digital cameras which led subsequently to its own virtual demise can't be ignored. Hopefully, Kodak ios about to have come full circle and will, again, realise that us filmies are worthy of their respect and our continued support - despite them having done their utmost to self destruct at every available opportunity.

Long live film, indeed, and long live EVERY manufacturer of film (even TiP).

WOW - big news indeed.

well I suppose they are not ditching DIGITAL totally.
there is still revenue to be made from licensing etc.

but it is ironic all right given the digital/analogue/Kodak
relationship and that the analogue lines are still relatively
alive and kicking.

...heres to a healthy analogue future > hopefully.

oh yea, how pointless is the digital photo frame? [imo]

Thanks for the welcome!

I've actually been reading this forum for the past year, and finally decided to join.  I'm into toy camera, vintage camera, and instant photography.  I also like to combine my photos with mixed media (beeswax, paper collage, image transfer, etc...).  I guess I've got creative ADD.

"Turn up for the book(s)" is, apparently, a reference to an unusual or unexpected event in the world of horse racing. Bookmakers are usually very good at predicting the outcome of races and setting the odds accordingly. If a horse performs much better (or worse) than anticipated, it would be described as a "turn up for the book(s)".

Yeah leon posted this thing about ending the digital camera division on facebook, and I was noticing the comments below the online news articles. It was mostly negative, saying that Kodak was making a mistake focusing on old technology. One person went as far as to say "it's the end of an era"! Obviously a person with zero historical awareness, believing that his 5 year old Kodak digital is the only thing Kodak has ever produced of any importance. But this is the kind of public attitude that Kodak is up against. People that think that their iPhone is for fine art photography.

It seem are catering to printing business for both commercial and consumer. Kodak need to embrace hybrid digital consumer. They need to make easier for consumer to scan their neg, adjust and and print them. It is still a very hard and time consuming task. Not enough consumers print, to make profits on the printers.

They need to make good silly iApp called "Kodagram" like instagram, but in fake kodachrome, plus x, etc! :D :P

Boy, was I wrong!!  I always thought the phrase referred to an unusually large vegetable: 'Now there's a turnip for the books...'

You and me both Terry. I thought it referred to the studiously bookish nature of those who bought their trousers too long, requiring a handy significant other with sewing machine skills.

How wrong could we have been?  Still, it's clear now.
