Salton Sea Movie
« on: January 26, 2012, 12:24:48 PM »
Slightly OT in that it relates to a much-loved and photographed location as opposed to photography itself, but I thought I'd post here on the million-to-one chance that Sean et al hadn't come across this move before now (http://bombaybeachfilm.com/)

Thanks! :)
Had not seen this!
I've been here a few times and it's always on my list when I go west.

Thanks for this, Ed. I was there about 10 years ago and loved. Can't wait to  return.

I've stared at it from a distance, but never been close. have come to know it better through Sean's and other people's photos in recent years, but I wasn't really aware that people lived there. Am very interested to see this film.

i got sort of bored with the bombay beach movie (it's on netflix). more about a boy with issues than the area itself, though there are some decent daily life scenes. this one is more entertaining:

Cheers Sean, I did see reference to "Plagues & Pleasures" last night when I was on the IMDB, but didn't follow it up. I do like the look of it from this trailer though....and anything with John Waters doing narration promises to be a fun watch  ;D

Well, Sean. That clip is way  sweeter than the first one - if that doesn't have people booking flights and packing bags, well, nothing will!

this place is always interesting, as well, about 6 miles from the sea. most people are familiar with it from "in the wild".

A Visit to Salvation Mountain

i met leonard a couple years ago and he gave me a tour, very nice guy and cool place. he is currently living in a nursing home and the guy who helped leonard and was the main go to man to help keep it alive recently died (though he was probably just around 50). so not sure what the future holds for it, if someone will take care of it or it will rot. won't take long to fall apart in the desert sun and rain. rough area, stuff decays fast.
