Filmwasters: Collaboration #26 - "New Year's Resolution"
« on: January 11, 2012, 02:05:29 PM »
All registered Filmwasters are cordially invited to participate in Collaboration Number 26.

------------------------------------
Theme: "New Year's Resolution"
------------------------------------

We're a bit late getting round to this collaboration, but hopefully it's still early enough in the New Year for some of you to have been thinking along these lines recently. Thanks to Sean Rohde for suggesting the theme.

There is no right or wrong in a Filmwasters collab. You can be as literal or as lateral as you wish when interpreting the theme, but please take time to include a sentence or two about how your submission relates to the theme. Here's a link for those of you who enjoy a bit of background reading : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Year's_resolution :-)

There is no 'time served' rule with these collaborations so don't worry if you only registered with us a week ago. Join in. The work we receive is always diverse and high-quality and the more people that get involved, the better the resulting gallery will be. So load up you cameras and get wasting film (and/or paper, glass, chemicals, tin, liquid light etc.).

------------------------------------------------------------------

Submission Deadline:  midnight Sunday, 12th February 2012

------------------------------------------------------------------

Basic requirements:

JPEG Requirements: One JPEG image.  Not larger than 600-750 ppi. in length or width. No more than 200kb.

PLEASE include your name in the image file name (e.g. "Susan L. Reflex - New Year.jpg")

**ALSO INCLUDE**

1. A brief explanation of how you interpreted the theme.
2. The camera, process and/or type of film used.
3. Your website or blog address that you'd like listed.

EMAIL SUBMISSIONS to filmwasters [at] gmail.com (please write "New Year's Resolution" in the subject bar so we can find them easier).

Sean, sorry it took me a couple of weeks to get round to this, and thanks again for suggesting the title.

The fact that there's been no discussion about this theme has me concerned that not many of you are planning to get submit a photo; let's hope I'm wrong.

For my part, I've been thinking about 'resolution' as a topic and trying to avoid falling into the inevitable, "This year I will take more pictures" trap. I have hatched a couple of ideas and will definitely be contributing if only because I need some motivation to take pictures these days due to being backed up with other, less interesting commitments. The driver of a mini project like this is always healthy.

The main blocker I have with this specific theme however is that I never actually make New Years resolutions, so this collab sees me coming up with one just that so I can take a photo that realtes to it  ;D

Right, that's me. Anyone else going to get involved in this and if so, along which lines are you thinking? I assume Sean has something in mind?

to be true you're pretty much on the money about not planning to submit, atleast for me and until I read your post. you have put the wheels in motion and I've got some ideas brewing.. I currently have two routes, one witty and one actually having something to do with my new years resolution.

I'm usually like you with the resolutions but rereading this reminded me that I actually made one! and it's connected with film too ;)

who else is up for this JAM?? c'mon now, let's kick this year off to a good start with a nice collab ;D

That's the spirit, Jonas! Come on people, let's do it  :)

Incidentally, I did just remember that the only time I've ever made a New Year's resolution was back when I was 17...and that was nothing to do with photography!

But did you manage to keep it, for more than a few days?   ;)

I had half a plan, but then Tesco took the sign down.  Now I'm thinking about Chinese New Year, but I may be late for that as well.

Wasn't Chinese new year last weekend?

I have been pondering what to submit, have a couple of take more picture type ideas, as a fall back but am still looking for something more inspiring.

I've spent the last 25 years - most of my adult life - trying not to set myself up for a frustrating fall and, therefore, not making commitments that I know I will fail to keep. I find New Year resolutions a demoralising waste of time as, in the immortal words of Oscar Wilde, I can resist anything except temptation.

This year is a bit different, though as, for some reason, I feel much, much older than my earth years and I really HAVE to do something FOR myself to have a chance of getting to see retirement. Not sure how to photograph it - but I'll give it a go.

even though it was my idea, i don't make ny resolutions, and i haven't really figured out what to do for this collab! i just wanted to see what other people would come up with, something with a challenge.

Hi Sean.

The fact that it's a challenge is the whole reason I'm interested. Thanks for the concept / idea, it might just help me focus.

hmm i have an idea but i'm not sure if it falls far enough from the tree of "this year I will take more pictures"... unless I approach it in a metaphotographic way... we shal see if I even get the time to do it before the deadline. I know the suprise is half the fun but as mine is kinda boring im tempted to share it to get peoples thoughts.

Thom, are you asking whether can be boring? Nope...definitely not  ;) You should share the idea here anyway. Go on...it's just me and you; no-one else can hear.

sadly havent got round to mine. my plan was to set up my caravan as a darkroom as we keep getting complaints about it we are going to have to put it on our drive and as it would be so close to the house i was planning to run some power and water out there and black it out so I can leave a dark room set up for longer periods. was going to take pictures of myself developing and printing pictures of myself setting up the dark room.. then print those :-P just to be confusing. ahhh well maybe another time

Thanks everyone for your submissions to date; much appreciated and all of the work is lovely!!

As some of you will have guessed, this is my traditional, "I know the submissions window has closed, but in reality I won't get round to compiling and posting the gallery for a couple of days, so if you haven't submitted yet, but need a couple more days then go for it." post  :D :D :D

In this case the added wrinkle is that my weekend ran away with me and I haven't actually shot my own contribution yet, so I'll be wheeling out a camera tomorrow and getting something sorted.

Watch this space for confirmation that the gallery's gone live and if you're a straggler....you have 2 more days to get something to me.
