Help re-assembling lens
« on: January 03, 2012, 05:36:09 PM »
I've been given a broken Lubitel 2 which I'm trying to fix, I just got the lens out to be able to clean the shutter but the problem is that the midle lens fell off when I pulled off the spring ring before I could memorize the side it should be put back. I got a few mix answers when looking on google which made things even more confusing...

Does anyone knows which way it should go or it doesn't really matter which way...?

can't say for sure but if the angles are different on both sides, it matters which way it goes in. probably option 1 with the black side inward. but i don't have a lubitel anymore to verify. though if you hold them together and look through you might be able to tell.

If you get it back to front you'll know, as you'll get a very funky swirl.  (Whether that matters or not ... ;) )

It has a definite shape difference, fore and aft, so I'd suggest you look at the metal seating to see which fits.  It's likely that the indented edge gives space for the spring clip and the black paint is a protection to mask it.

Thanks Diane :) ... please don't pull your Lubi apart :o it's a nightmare to to put it all back...

I thought so as well but it's just impossible to put the spring ring on this side, even so the Patent drawing is like option 1. Now with the black side facing up the spring sits perfectly. I hold the lens against different subjects  and no matter what side I look I can see exactly the same image with no distortions.

Exactly, the patent drawing shows black paint inward but might not make any difference...
