Guest Galleries are like buses. You wait for months, and nothing new appears, then when you are least expecting it, 2 arrive together. And this one is a real treat for me ...
10 years ago, I enrolled on an Adult Education photography course. I thought I'd be learning about flash, f stops and film speeds etc, but in fact, it turned out to be a darkroom course. The tutor was an incredibly enthusiastic and experienced photographer and printer called Lalo Borja - a South American ex-pat now living in Kent. His up-beat love of the craft and motivation was contagious and sparked something in me that survives to this day. Lalo didn't really talk much about the rules or technological constraints of the medium, instead he was all about the creativity and expression in the fine print. He didn't hold back on manipulations, and taught me to look beyond mere record as the end result in print making.
I've managed to catch up with Lalo again recently, and am honoured to present some new work from him in our latest Filmwasters guest gallery.

website and
blog too. His retrospective portfolio includes some amazing work - sometimes funny, sometimes challenging, sometimes a little risqué but always captivating and thought provoking. Make yourself a nice mochachino/ capuspresso/ americhiatto and spend some time looking over the work. It is amazing (not that I'm biased or anything!)
