Phil has a rather sexy new Linhof that he wants to learn how to tame.

I think this is a superb opportunity to go for a FWers walk en LF masse.

I suggest those who have LF cameras and are either newbies or oldbies should come along and we'll share our working practises, tips and tricks.

I propose that we meet in Kent, down my way ... on either sat 7th, sun 8th, sat 14th or sun 15th Jan, for a wander around the coast to make the most of the baltic winds that blow from the North East at that time of year.

There will be pubs too.

edit: For fairness, people with smaller tools are also welcome, although I hold no responsibility for any psychological harm caused by feelings of inadequacy.

Sounds good to me, I'm in the Oldbie section having used L/F for many years although only 5x4 these days, to old to carry any larger. January!!!! is a worry though as I'm normaly in hibernation then.

My first thought was prompted because I'm taking three weeks off over the break. But I work MT/TF, and now that I think of it I can occasionally swap a day around to give a long weekend. So let's see what consensus comes up. I have a bunch of 5x7 that needs some air.

Have just agreed a new schedule at work which gives me Fridays free for a couple months after new year. So a Saturday meet would be the more doable.

Once a date is decided, I'll take the day off work and the Wista and I will be delighted to attend. I'll even bring my limited supply (about a dozen sheets) of Polaroid Type 52 for us all to play with as a bit of "instant gratification" might be fun - so we can get some idea what the negative versions of what we're shooting should look like.....

Leon - Coming from a tropical country this the only thing that worries me!

Going to the seaside in January in the opposite hemisphere with a 4x5 camera it's something that will look really good on my CV back in Brazil!...

Excellent - sounds like there'll be quite a turn out.

I'm sorry to say that the only date I am able to make now (thanks to some reality checks provided by Mrs T) is saturday the 7th.

so that will have to be it.

We should meet at 10 am at the car spaces at the Monks Granary at Standard Quay Faversham (ME13 7BS), have a wander around the Iron Wharf Boat yard there and up the creek, then drive on to Reculver , and finally on to Broadstairs ?

I'll try to sort out a good pub to stop at some point for lunch.

I know it is a bit of a trek, but I think it will give a range of opportunities for pics and styles etc. Less of a walk and more of a tour.

how's that sound?

I'm looking forward to seeing all the big guns out on show.

Nice idea re the shipwrights Miles ... but it's sort of going backwards? Also not sure about food there - I don't think i've ever eaten there. I was thinking either the Anchor after a wander around Iron Wharf, or maybe somewhere en route to Reculver - The Share and Coulter at Greenhill?

I'll ask Davis senior as he wanders around that bit of coast rather a lot. If heading for Reculver then there's The Ethelbert. Can get nice and bleak in the shadow of the sisters ? Bit Hackney'd maybe ...

October 2007 ... My god, it was windy that day.

Taken with my freshly rebuilt whole plate Triple Victo, but this was back when I made my very first set of large format bellows. They were pretty crap and not at all pretty to look at, and I still had to chase down lightleaks in the back and at the front, so it was hardly a successful session.

Now of course, it looks fine and works fine ...
