Topic: Another casualty by the digital revolution...

I got this blog adress sent to me and I found quite interesting... some really cool photographs, like the the HMV Store in Oxford St. in the 60's. 

Sadly,  the same store has closed down few months ago along with other branches due to finacial difficulties and with the whole digital revolution, the future is very uncertain ( and my job as well...).

Anyways... at least there are some decent pictures to remind the future generation that record stores in fact one day existed!

Digitial revolution... and a persistence of recording companies to put out bland, mindless music, ad infinitum. 

In Denver there's two good sized independent music shops.  One of them, Twist and Shout - moved into a brand new building a couple years ago.  Further, its owner is adamant that "online piracy" doesn't hurt sales, but increases them because of the number of people he's met that come in looking to buy albums from bands they found out about online.

Kind of surprised the RIAA hasn't assassinated him for that remark... 

Here in Austin as one might expect there are a number of shops specializing in records and music.

there's just something about old vinyl....but yeah the old stores seem to be fewer and fewer in number these days.

Always sad when a record store closes...
In Montreal, there used to be Sam the Record Man. The place was wonderful. Very plain white walls and fluorescent lights. When I was a kid, there was always a crowd there. Lots of punks (I'm talking about the real thing with spiky mohawks, leather and safety pins...). It was very impressive. But they closed down... bankruptcy.

This is a picture I found on the net of their Toronto store. Montreal's was similar with the giant neon rotating record.
