SPX... uh I mean SFX 200 Returns!
« on: February 23, 2007, 04:22:02 PM »
Ilford just announced that SFX 200 is coming back (see Leon's note below on the correct name. I haven't had enough caffeine this morning). For those of you who aren't familiar with it, it's regular panochromatic film that has strong senitivity to reds but without the problems inherent in infrared. In other words, it can be loaded in subdued light just like any regular film. With the use of a dark red filter, it turns skies black and foliage white, just like infrared. According to the press release, it will be available in the UK sometime next month, followed by an April rollout in the U.S. It will be available in 35 and 120 formats. I always wanted to try this stuff out but was discontinued during the reorganization of Ilford to its present form. Film lives on thanks to companies like Ilford.

do you mean SFX?  ;)

it's not that good IMO - it's only HP5 with a slightly higher red seinsitivity.  To get the best out of it, you shoudl use the SFX filters (supplied by ilford) with it - but dont expect HIE, that it aint.

You're right, Leon. It is SFX. My bad! Still, can't hurt to try to few rolls and take her out for a spin...

Yay!!!! :)
I liked it, and since it had a speed of 200, I could use it in some of my pinhole rigs where 400 was too fast.
Glad to see it return!  Shows that Ilford does listen to us.   :) :)

It is pretty amazing that Ilford only re-introduced this film because people asked them to do so.  They are pretty good like that.

And you're right Bill it wont harm to give it a go .... I may even be tempted to do it myself - never did try it out in 120.

I heard a rumor about this on Apug or somewhere, glad to hear its true. I really liked this film, but I never used it with filters. Seemed to give great contrast and really glowing skin tones. I was going to try it with filters but by the time I decided to , they had discontinued. Cant wait to get some more :)
