taking home messing to the next step
« on: February 21, 2007, 11:35:40 AM »
I've been trying to develop this idea further.  This time I'm using HP5 - I think its character adds to the pictures more than the Lucky 100 I was using for the last few shots.

comments welcome :)

Leon,

Another beautiful bunch!

For me, Flower 2 and 5 are the winners here. 2 is so delicate and works on so many levels. Very yin-yang.

I'm also fond of 4.

I think you have a wonderful series in the works.

agree with Susan on the yin/yang of the second one.

The last one doesn't do much for me.
And I think the reason is the others seem to infuse a sense of movement and draw me in while the last photo does not.

lovely set overall,

thanks Susan and Becky.  I am thinking of making this into a series.  I reckon about 6 - 8 should be good.  I dont think I'd want to use the effect too much  - just a one off series then back to sharp Leon!

I'll get a set together and use them on the Articles section for a portfolio reveiw or similar - sounds like a plan to me :)

Flowers are getting too easy for you Leon

Next time, you should try your hand at shooting potatoes  :D
Now, there's a real challenge  ;D

No 1 is my favourite, the image ia so well balanced, the darker edges drawing the viewer around the image and holding your attention.  No 4 has Robert Mapplethorpe written all over it, a strong graphic image. Nice work.

Its a pity that Kentmere Art classic is gone, these would have printed beautifully on it.

I know what you mean Eddie.  I'm thinking some matt ilford MGFB warmtone would be nice with a light thiocarbimade toning to the very highlights ...... we'll see.

Number 2 does it for me. I just like the way it fills the frame and the delicate tones.
OT- Kentmere art classic is gone? I just tried that last year. I did not like it that much for the project I was working on but it was still a nice paper and I could see using it for something else in the future. I guess I had really better get used to ilford again. Its what I started with but now that I have tried other papers , its no longer my favorite.  I heard a rumour the other day that forte was going bye bye....

A great series Leon - one that you can spend years developing - John is still working on tulips after 12+ years :) And yes I agree all are beyond messing about!

Totally true... I suffer through my allergies every Spring to get pictures of just about everything that simply grows. Been shooting flowers for a long time too, up to a point where I'm just a bit tired of it... But I know Spring will come and I'll be back laying in the mud to get the small details :)

Watch out for this Leon, it's contagious :)

Is that right? Freestyle is still selling them. Does that mean, when it's gone, it's gone? ALso, Leon, I missed the description of the process you referred to. Is it a secret or is there I post I might read about it?

thanks everyone - very encouraging comments.

Benny - yes, Forte has stopped it's production and, as far as I know for now, once it's gone from stores, it's completely gone.  I think Kentmere here in the UK have been in some negotiation to see if they might be able to start making some of the old forte papers, and I think there may be some other manufacturers who are also interested.  No more news than that though.

As to my secret methods, there's not really that much mystery to it all - just a 6x6 slr, a magnifying glass and some magic sprinkles.
