« on: November 04, 2011, 04:48:34 PM »
Hi all,
I've got my hands on a land camera 250 but looks like it'll need some professional help to get working again. can someone recommend a good polaroid specialist repair shop in the UK?
thanks
Thil

I doubt anyone will repair a 250. Would be cheaper to spend $50 on another, anyway!

Thil

I shudder at the cost of a pro to repair it... DIY or get another... Mine was a tenner or so at Photographica...

My go to guy charges 45 notes pretty much regardless of the amount of work required. Near rebuilt my Yash' 12 tlr for that sum.

If you've got a bit of patience it is pretty easy to do yourself. There's an OK write up here on how to overhaul one (for the 100 but almost the same): http://www. blank.com/conversions/100/. If this doesn't do it then yeah, a new one is the way to go.

I don't know if these guys are still in business, but Polaroid used to recommend them:

Precision Camera in Chicopee Falls, MA, 800-665-6515

Success !!  ;D

Looked around for a while for a camera repair centre which wouldn't charge me something approaching a 3 figure fee and I finally found someone. He was a really helpful guy called Ray Cserkas based near St. Albans. He more or less re-wired the electrics - all he charged me was a tenner and now it works beautifully.

He isn't a Polaroid specialist but I thoroughly recommend Ray for any repairs - he's a very nice guy with years of experience.

I took it for its first outing in the snow over the weekend and will post some shots on the weekend thread shortly.

Thil

Feel a little silly on this one as Ray is my favoured quack that I mentioned earlier in the thread...

Should have passed you his details there and then...

Yeah, for a good price and great service I'm all for him...

Google 'Ray Czerkas repair' and his details will pop up...

Well, I'm glad that ended well for you, Thil and that both you and Mr Miller are singing the praises of Ray. I'll be getting touch with him ASAP as I'm sure I have about 40 cameras which need some level of fixing up.
