messing around at home
« on: February 18, 2007, 08:13:09 PM »
As usual, my planned sunday of strolling around with my camera in some idyllic photogenic location was ruined by yet another grey god-awful day.  So I found some bits-and-bobs around the house and started experimenting.

comments as always welcome  :)

if contrasts and tones are off - It maybe because I've got a new flat screen monitor which is a very good one, but it's still dicult to get the adjustments right.  Wish I'd kept my old one now :(

Leon, these are stunning. I sometimes get a bit bored by 'another' set of flower images but these are beautiful and different. You make it sound so easy...
I'm at work and my monitor is pretty poor (dark) but they still look great so I think you've got it right

Yes, a stunning bouquet.
I am also usually jaded by flower photos as they all look like clones after a while and have no personality, these are exquisite.
Maybe a little dark, but it's probably my monitor.
The bottom Lily is a beaut!

What camera were you making this magic with?

astro :)

Leon, I like the last one best. The first one is OK, but not really one thing or the other (in my humble old punk got opinion) the 2nd one is getting there and feeling good, but the final one is 100% wicked. The great thing about them is that I'd never have guessed that you'd taken them...and that's a good thing. I like being surprised.

And for the record I take LOADS of flower/botanicals shots even thought I too can get burnt out on looking through other peoples'. I prefer mine blurred and dreamy like Leon's and I get a real kick out of taking them. Also, being a Dad of a demanding 2 year old with another baby on the way, a busy job and some other hobbies, sometimes a vase of flowers is the easiest interesting thing to take experimental photos of.

Here are three from a recent session. Pentax SLR + binocular lens and ADOX Ortho film.

....whoops! Does this mean this thread is now a "Show us your flowers shots" thread?

Wow, Leon. The last shot is a stunner. They are all great---but 3 knocks it out of the ballpark.
Loving this dark, sensitive side of you.

Last one says Leon all over it. Glorious. I'd like to participate too Ed, but as you know, my cameras self-destruct if I use them on flowers (or bees).

Leon, those shots are beautiful. I like number one, the flower looks like it's dancing! What have you used to capture these? Ed, wonderful floral shots too!
I suppose I might jump on the band wagon...
These taken with a Tektronix C-30B with Polaroidback expired 679 and 667 respectively...

thanks everyone - and thanks to those who posted their own flower shots.  Some great stuff going on there.  The camera was my usual 6x6 with a few additions to augment the lens.

Yes Beck, It was originally designed to capture oscilloscope waveforms onto polaroid film, but does some reasonable macro work once you get used to it.
*Small technical note of minor importance - The example images are of a C-30A loaned to me by a fellow Polaroid afficianado in Melbourne for a while - it's slightly different model to the one I have now which is a C-30B*
