Print your own lens caps?
« on: October 10, 2011, 06:06:40 PM »
Just browsing the stuff available at shapeways.com and came across this:

At first glance, I thought 'lens cap', but it's a lens cap holder that goes on your strap.

Printing your own lens cap is not a bad idea though if you need an odd size or hard-to-find cap - or parts that are no longer available.

Yeah- I've pondered this too in terms of some of the lenses that take weirdo bayonet hoods etc. And all of the other fun things I could design and make- even whole cameras? .

(I want a 3d printer so badly that I'm contemplating selling a kidney or even my Hassy. Kidney it is...)

ohyeah, I was looking at one of those build-it-yourself-3d-printers. REALLY cool, but kind of choppy results :/

Yep, a 3D printer...
It's on my list of "To-Get" things, after the back tattoo, lasers, GCMS machine, master's degree, pilot's license and light plane (Cessna with Lycoming engine, Twin Beech, or Cirrus SR22 with Tornado Alley option, bleeding wings and it's own parachute. Aw, there are too many to choose from!) and lasers.. oh I already said, but lasers too.
*sigh* I need about a metric truckload of money.. Better get myself a lotto ticket..

I know I fell in love with the rep rap which can do some pretty awesome quality...
The Makerbot thing-o-matic is also getting better. They're coming up with smaller filament and 2 color printing pretty soon...

I like the ethos of the reprap a lot. It seems like the more affordable option too. If I live off lentils for a year I might just be able to afford it....
