Rest in Peace
« on: October 06, 2011, 02:39:04 AM »
Although irrelevant to film, I found a need to post this because I know there are others just like me who use Apple products for our personal needs. I have several Ipods and a couple Macbooks myself.

RIP. Steve Jobs was definitely a Pioneer of the Digital Age in my book.

My Macbook Pro weeps for you.

Aye ... and ditto for those who work with music at their side:

I was going to say the same Sandeha - Bert is my guitar hero, very sad. I'm gutted that I never got to see him play.

Leon - really sad to hear about Bert Jansch. I've not played any of his stuff for ages but I must see if I can find my old Pentangle vinyl. Mind you, I've nothing to play it on these days. Off to HMV it is, then.......

I'm also sorry to hear about Steve Jobs. He seemed like a decent fellow and I do have an iPod Touch with my "daily" music on it. Hopefully, Steve Jobs will have put a good succession plan in place. One guy on the train was pontificating that because of the negative speculation, Apple shares would probably take a temporary dip - so today would be a good day to buy them. Nice to see some people have a good handle on the human side of such sad events.

And Graham Dilley.

The Steve Jobs thing saddened me too... though I must admit all these untimely departures make me cry anyways...

I don't have any apple product, but love playing with them at the store. Much more delicate and refined in design than my Ubuntu running netbook...

Gideon Coe played an hours worth of Berts music on Wednesday night. The 2nd hr of the show mixed old and new including bbc sessions.http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b015gr09/Gideon_Coe_05_10_2011/

Here in the south east of England you always tend to assume that everybody will be back or play again.
More so with all the reformations that go on.

sad news all round. I met Bert Jansch's son Adam at Uni of Huddersfield when I studied there, he came to one of our house parties and there was a big spider diagram poster of uk rock and music history on our living room wall and everyone was pointing out pentangle to him :-P seemed like a nice dude.

Ive never really listened to his dads music but I think I will have to give it a shot now.

Bert came and played at one of the Riverside Festivals here in Gravesend. I'm not a guitar player myself but I could certainly appreciate the skill of the man.

Steve Jobs death is also sad, he was obviously very skilled at what he did. It's always a shame when anyone dies before their time and reminds me to try to appreciate every day.

Never heard of Gideon Coe before but there's some really good stuff on that "clip". Does anyone know how to download that onto an iPod, please?

Simple: use an audio editing program like Audacity, Wavosaurus or Goldwave, set the recording to Stereo Mix, create a file of the appropriate length, press the record button, start the player and go do something else :)

If you're looking for a recommendation for an album to start with Jack Orion would be the one for me. Makes my spine shiver every time I hear it, and kinda makes sense as an album.
