More Vivian Maier...
« on: May 03, 2011, 11:48:29 AM »

More Vivian Maier, from: http://www.cracktwo.com/2011/04/amazing-mystery-photographer-comes-to_28.html

Which I assume is farming the blog. But nice to see them like this...

Including some new stuff (if you can call it that). So glad I am an investor and will be getting the DVD and book when they're produced. Skj.

An amazing story for sure - lets hope that she gets the credit she deserves.

Looks like a fabulous social record of the era. She certainly had the gift. What a pity it's taken until now to "discover" her and what a tragedy that she never got to see any profit from her art. Mind you, as Joel Meyerowitz said at "Format", apparently there wasn't any significant market for street photography until the late 60's onwards....

Thank you sooo much!
These are the kinds of photos I sit and study for hours and hours.

They make me want to meet her in person... but I feel like I have and that I can just hang out with her anytime on the streets that she documented in such raw detail.

This is one of the best collections ever!!

Thanks Mark!

Like Astrobeck, I find these images completely absorbing!  These really need to be studied in depth in a gallery, or museum, or a well printed collection in book form.  Any idea about additional exhibits or publishing plans at this time?  I know there was a show in Chicago that I couldn't make it to, but I haven't heard of any upcoming events about this phenomenal work.

At first I didn't realize the color shots had been taken with something other than a Rollei - any idea what the camera was she used for those?  I saw it in one of her shots - a 35mm of some sort, I think, but maybe a 645? - but couldn't make out any details.

Thanks for sharing these - they are stunning.

Mark

I had planned to go to the exhibition in Hamburg. I was even it town as it was my sister's wedding, but it was at the other end of town (> 1h one way) and sadly I didn't have the time.

I suspect a copyright violation. The images too are likely to disappear, so better reference the real blog then! Or, buy the book! See ya. Skj.

It may not be confirmed yet, but there are plans for a VM exhibition at the Third Floor Gallery in Cardiff at the end of this year.  http://www.thirdfloorgallery.com/index.html

This is the kind of treasure trove that I don't think would ever be discovered from photographers shooting digital.

From the latest update:

If you haven't seen the new website for Vivian Maier, it's a must! Tastefully designed with simplicity in mind by Martin Fuchs. But, more importantly for all of our backers, we've uploaded the latest trailer with some early footage. See www.vivianmaier.com or go directly to the trailer here:

Enjoy! Skj.

the movie seems to be gone now, does anyone have a new site for it?

Love this self portrait of her.
