I used to love the Korova Milk Bar in the east village, which was decked out like the drug den in A Clockwork Orange, but I think its closed down now.

Here are some gluten free restaurants:

My favorite is Bistango on 3rd Ave at 29th Street. They have separate gluten free menu, AND a separate GF prep area so there is no cross contamination. They have some seriously fabulous Italian food. Make sure you ask for the gluten free menu. They are dedicated to GF, and Celiac groups have events there so they are safe.

Also, for convenient fast food: You can go to any Chipotle Mexican Grill (they are all over town). Everything there is GF except the tortillas & the tomatillo salsa. So when you go in, just say you have 'gluten allergies' and ask the person who fixes your food to change their gloves (since they may have handled the tortillas). They are fine with it as it is a corporate policy to offer GF.

There are other GF places, depending on how strict you need to be. I can't have any cross-contamination from wheat AT ALL, so I can only eat where there is a separate prep area for gluten free food. The following restaurants are GF, but don't have a separate area, but I know Celiacs who still eat at these places with no problems:

Pala Pizza, 198 Allen Street (comes highly recommended from Celiacs who say they make the best GF pizza anywhere, though I haven't been there yet).

Sacred Chow, 227 Sullivan (between 3rd Street & Bleecker) Vegan. I was in there just last week & it was excellent.

Angelica Kitchen, 300 East 12th Street (good prices)

Candle Cafe, 1307 3rd Avenue (bet 74th & 75th)

Cafe Blossom, 466 Columbus Avenue

Also...

While you are in town, don't miss the Stiechen, Steigitz & Strand show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Nice work the filmwasters!

Sat in some place by grand central with some drunk Mexican builders. Great food charged by the lb.

Now just need to find our friend then lug cases to our place of stay.  Will have a check of these tomorrow.

I'm in Brooklyn (Clinton Hill / Bed-Stuy).  If you want to meet up at some point Sunday, let me know.

Hookstrapped.  Apologies. I'm having lots of trouble getting wifi and can't (afford) international 3G charges hence I'm restricted to access as and when I can find it.  I'm also staying out in conneticut so didn't get the message.

I'm in NYC today though

THere is free wifi all over NYC. You can find it in most city parks (the best on for wifi is Bryant Park (behind the public library) 40th - 42nd streets on 6th Ave.

Also, all of the Apple stores have free wifi (the one across from the Plaza Hotel is open 24 hours a day).

I'm now home, what a trip!

The four seasons was a nice hotel.
