I've had one made for years but never tried it... I need to get the lab in order and get some chems.

Mine is actually a reclaimed Ansco Viking Readyset that had a rusted out shutter. Took the thing apart and converted it into a folding pinhole camera :)

woo i almost forgot, made my first pinhole camera a couple of weeks ago and have a few ideas up my sleeve. no pictures of the camera yet but here are some i took with it. (still feeling my way around exposures, the f-stop i worked out at only like 95 so im guna try and make the pinhole smaller for longer exposures and ease of use)

I've been looking to make a panoramic pinhole for a while now and finally completed the prototype at the weekend. Plan printed onto single sheet of A4 and made out of a ceral box carton. Test film being stand developed as I type.

If it drys in time I'll post scans later.

Well it dried.

This is expired Agfa Vista 200 as as mentioned before stand developed in rodinal.

Must modify the shutter so I don't get my knuckles in the way.  Opps! :D

Thom and happy, I love those pano pinholes.  Would really like to see the camera that makes them.

Very good stuff!

Urban- once you use that wide holga you'll wonder why it took so long.  I think you'll really enjoy it.  The exposures on the back are pretty good guides too!

Becks

Pictures of the Camera are attached.

The pinhole is 0.25mm with a pinhole to film distance of 26mm, giving F104.

The camera has been designed to fold together to make it easier to remove\replace the film and hopefully simple to make.

The film dimensons are nominally 24 by 70 mm.

Happy, is there a template online of this pano pinhole camera?  ???
I'd be up for trying this one too.
I love pano pinholes, and DIY is even better.  ;D

It would be cool to have it as an Earth Day/World Pinhole Day camera combo since it's made out of recycled items.

Earth Day is April 22, and then World Pinhole day runs from April 23 to May 1.
(Pinhole Day falls on Easter this year, so it runs for an entire week)

Beck

The shutter was a piece of card hinged with black tape and held closed by tape and rubber band (when not in use).  However it de-laminated when I was trying the camera out so it has been removed for the time being.

pdf and dwg files for the various format can be found here http://86.20.28.106/temp/.  The files are Drawing24, Drawing35 & Drawing70.

The formats are 70x24, 35x24 and 24x24. Although I have only made up the first in the series at present and they are quite basic.  With the 70 I toyed with the idea of having the pinhole biased to on edge or the other but haven't tried this out yet. Still refining the design\use.

They should be printed full size onto A4 paper.  With adobe reader you may have to uncheck the "shrink oversized pages" to paper size to get the right size. Particularly with the 70 model.

Glue the printout onto thin card (I used a cereal box) or print onto thin card.

I would recommend that the film aperture\pinhole and lead through's for film winding are cut out of the card before any of the other cuts are made.  Once the remaining cuts are made the camera will fold up into a box. Secure using elastic\rubber bands.

I have not included any visual instructions at this stage but will try and sort some out before the weekend as I am away.  (I plan to take one of these with me to play\waste some film with.)

The film is fed from one cassette to another as per the pin hole instructions at the start of this thread.

My wind on mechanisim is a 8 mm diameter dowel with a slot in the end and for the 70 I use two full turns to wind on to the next frame.

If anybody has any question about these then I will do my best to answer them prompty.

Good Luck.

Mike

Realised if I didn't get it done tonight it wouldn't get done before the week end so here are a couple of shots which may help\hinder.

Please note this is the original camera.  The plan has been modified with the two holes shown in the rear of these pictures moved so that the top of the film cassettes come out the same side of the camera.  In these one came out the top and the other out the bottom.

I've also shown collars\light baffles that I created to the same dimensions as the circular holes in the camera, to assist in preventing light getting to the film via the winding positions.  The are about 2 mm smaller in one dimension compared with mark square around the hole in the plans.

first shot out of my newly created pinhole camera from a small wooden cigar box..I really like this mostly due to the lack of distortion.I know I have some lightleaks to fix but other than that I think it is good to go! and "yes" it is still snowing at my house..took this from about 6 ft. in front of the car...

Oh my goodness, you all are so clever! I love the square format you got with your pinhole Nigel, and Diane, your cigar box pinhole image is fantastic! And on a weather note, we have another storm blowing more snow our way. Almost totally unheard of for this time of year out here.

Hey Thom, can I see what the pix from your camera look like?

There is one shot further up the thread of the old farm house. The rest are here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/thomo_lomo/sets/72157626248217442/

the rest are pretty lame, was struggling with over exposure and was attempting to reduce it in scanning process but still came out bad. as I said in my post above I'm guna try to get a smaller clean pinhole to let in less light.

Those are lovely images.  I'll be happy if mine come out at present.

Thom

This is an interesting camera, what is it made off and why\how the dumbbell shape on the front.
I like the knob on the dowel, have to see if I can find anything suitable, might try the cork from a old wine bottle. Now where can i get an old wine bottle ??? :D

Also working on a shutter system.

Great picture.  Can we see the camera sometime please?

Well happy, its simply a mini Ammo tin i picked up from my local ARmy surplus, I bought it thinking "im sure i can use this for something" low and behold i did :-)

thought it would make a good pinhole camera as although it isn't light tight it has strong clasps that keep it closed, so after a little foam padding and gaffa tape i had a camera, not bad for a first try! working on MkII as soon as Ive done my polaroid peel apart pinhole conversion.

+ the weird dumbell shape is just the molding of the box... It was like that when i got here.

Unless Leon says the contrary, pictures of analog cameras can be posted even if taken with a digital camera...

You can also take pictures of digital cameras using film cameras (since it would be shot on film... but the interest would be dubious...)

Obviously, film cameras can be photographed using film cameras.

But digital pictures of digital cameras will make the photo gods angry and send all those electrons crashing on your house ;)

Just got back from a short holiday.

Becks love the camea hope the pictures are as tasty looking as the camera.

It looks very neat.  I assume that you had no trouble making it.

I made myself two and took them away with me, one loaded with colour and one with black and white.  Still need to finish the films off and get them developed.

Hopefully will go somewhere in the near future to finsih up the film.

I've been remiss about completing the roll but should finish this weekend!
However, the cherry pie was finished long ago!  ;D

I think you're under exposed - they're drying at the moment. Ran through some 400iso and 50iso and developed together in 1+100 Rodinal for an hour. Used 12- 15 sec exposure the 400 roll is (generally) over exposed and the 50 (generally) underexposed.

And this is the 'beast' Andrea referred to

Agfa 'Silette' - pinhole conversion by windy_, on Flickr

I won a bid on Ebay for an Agfa Silette + Horvex 3 light meter. The bidder commented that 'levers and dials seem to work fine but the camera hasn't been tested'. I was after the light meter and won it for £2.45

The camera didn't work, the shutter was jammed. Andrea dropped some negs off that she had scanned for me and put the idea of a 'pinhole' in my head. Later in the evening I Started to take it apart and found a broken spring. No chance of repairing it, so I pulled it apart down to  the body, covered the 'holes' with some black plastic from an ice cream carton, punched a hole through and added a 'pinhole' on a bit of an old Guinness can (the spell check recognises that I spelt Guinness wrong  ;D ) and used the top of an agfa 120 film canister (with a hinged lid) for the shutter . All held together with insulation tape, duck tape and araldite.

Looking at all of the home made cameras here I feel like I will be cheating by using a Mamiya 645 on Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day.

I will be loading it with Some Ilford Pan F Plus.

(In anticipation of the day, the photo here was taken with my Daylab Polaroid Pinhole)
