This is actually not a completely new thing.
Years ago when digital was just coming into the market, there was a company working on something like this...
The device was called eFilm (boy do I have good memory...)
Here's an article about it all

Film is the vinyl record of photography.

Could you imagine if they did several formats, especially dead ones. You could use damn near every camera ever made. Think about it. Best part, most of the mechanics of vintage cams outlived the films that they used. Please make this a reality

I was enthusiastic until I read:

"Set the ISO to 400 and your done - your camera will now take high quality digital pictures."

I would hate to capture images containing word choice errors.

there are quite a few spelling etc errors on the page  ...

The RE-35 cartrige connects to your Mac or PC

Abobe Air runtime required (this one might be copyright avoidance though)

Wether you invested a serious ammount of money or you just all that mechanical goodness

The hassle und the price for materials keep you from keeping it analog more and more often.

I know I made a flippant comment about these, but they are a good idea. I think they'd probably need to be a rigid thing rather than the flexible sensor ... and some thought needs to be made about how the cartridge will know that a shot has been taken, but I can see these being a viable product.

I did some research on the eFilm that Francois mentioned.

1.3 Mpx. :) I think that I would rather keep using film.

But I'd actually buy one of these. Tons of full frame rangefinders on the market in one stroke!  It would be the end of Leica! (just kidding, Leica will always exist as an us vs them brand)

Don't forget, that was in 2000 :)

It's REAL!

35mm FILM? No, It's DIGITAL! - Digital Cartridges for Analog 35mm cameras.
After reviewing their site, It appears to be legit. Very exciting news!
Cheers,

I've looked at the site loads, and I have no idea how you work it that it is a real product from that limited information.  It's a concept tied in with april fools as far as I can tell.

anyway - enough attention to digital.  This is FILM wasters - lets talk film.

I hear you have to cut them up so they work with Leicas.
