Life Support Japan auction
« on: March 14, 2011, 03:52:50 PM »
Hi everyone

I'm not sure if I should be posting this in the main forum (please move if I'm not!) - some of you might be aware that the photo community got together over the weekend to create 2 auctions of photographers donating prints with all proceeds going to Direct Relief and Habitat for Humanity.. organised by Crista Dix & Aline Smithson. So far over $10,000 raised from online sales.

I've been talking to Aline about doing a London auction with all proceeds to either the charities above and/or the Red Cross.

Would anyone be interested in donating a print to auction off for this? I'm trying to secure an actual space rather than online for this, but it may end up being an online auction.

Please get in touch with any suggestions/interest etc.. thanks!

Thanks Leon!

I'll either try and put the auction online like Crista did or try and find someone who let me use their gallery space, the online route may be more viable with such short notice.

Suzi, I'll happily donate one too.
I've just said yes to one on Flickr as well, the more help the better.

Thanks Vicky and Erin..

Erin here's the Wallspace one http://wall-spacegallery.com/displayShow.php?showID=122&collection=3

If you're on facebook the instructions how to donate to this one and the other one are there, if not message me and I'll forward them to you via pm.

The other auction is taking place in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday 19th - so they need exhibition ready (ideally framed) pieces no later than Friday 18th. It's quite short notice unless you're in the US.

I'll get to work setting up an online auction site later and get back to you with instructions if anyone wants to donate a print - I've also had offers from other photographers so hopefully it will make some money for a worthy cause :)

OK I'm in process of setting up an auction site right now.. so if any Filmwasters would like to donate a print here are the instruction guidelines (I'll make it simple as I don't want to take up too much forum space).

Please email me a good quality jpg of the print -1000 px wide max would be ideal - to froupster@gmail.com

Your name/website
Title of print
Size of print in inches (no larger than 10x10 inches would be ideal)
Process ie silver gelatin etc

The US auction priced each print at $50 so in keeping all prints will be priced at £30 each.

I will only ask you to send me the print if it sells & then ask you to sign/date the back - no need for it to be matted or framed.

All proceeds of any sale will go to The British Red Cross Japan Tsunami Appeal.

I'm trying to get the auction site space free (worth a try) but otherwise will pay for it myself.

Thanks in advance anyone who can help
Please pm or email me any queries :)

Hi Suzi, is £30 the starting point for bidding or the sale price?

The sale price, actually I will call it a sale rather than an auction..

Hi Suzi,  I'd like to do what I can for this terrible disaster.  I take it I'm not too late?  I won't be able to email anything until tomorrow evening at the earliest.

Hi Suzi.

I've just sent you a digital file of the print I'm donating. Have a look at my website, though, as I'm more than happy to donate any image on there (film or the other stuff....) that you feel might be appropriate / more commercial.

All the best and well done for organising this.

Just a little update, the site is now live here: http://welovejapan.bigcartel.com/ if anyone wants to take a look - I really appreciate everyone who is re-posting the info/helping/donating/buying - and Dave from FADU who saw it on the forum here and posted it over there.

Thanks a lot  ;)
