Mugshots.... or portraits?

Just come across this, it says they are photos from Justice & Police Museum collection, need to find out what museum exactly.
Many look like portrait sessions... I assume in a way they were

So, there's a cheaper way to get your portrait taken than going to the Sears Studio  :P

Yes - Sydney P.D. 1912-1948.   I posted a link to it here http://www.filmwasters.com/forum/index.php?topic=3747.0 in an earlier thread, Really beautiful aren't they!
