Look what the postman brought...
« on: March 08, 2011, 02:37:48 PM »
A 300mm Schneider LF lens, the old style which is reversable to make a 500mm lens. It is set in a very early shutter mech with a top speed of 1/100. It is big and heavy and following a little dust, it's in pretty good shape. £50 on ebay.

I love the convertible Symmars - great value for money, and cast a beautiful image onto the ground glass.

I can't wait to see it in action. I need to get a Toyo mount for it. Anyone know about these things? I'm guessing a copal 3 mount as that's what other long lenses seem to go for.

Weird, dull, replying to my own question...but...I got a toyo copy lens panel on ebay for a copal #3 shutter. All good so far apart from it didn't have the plastic shutter mount. After much deliberation I decided to put the panel that came with the lens, which is smaller, up against the back of the toyo panel and thread all the parts through that. It worked, and although the old panel is a bit loose, I think it will do the trick.

Great stuff. There's nothing like lashing together a bit of LF gear. Good to see you're keeping it real. It goes without saying that we'll need to see how you get on with it. Are you shooting sheet film or instant?
