Viewfinder Photography Gallery Pub Quiz
« on: February 23, 2011, 08:36:26 PM »
Unfortunately this will only be of interest to Filmwasters in the London area.

I am a trustee for a very small photography gallery based in Brixton. Being cash strapped, and enjoying a good pub quiz, we thought what better way to have a fundraiser. It would be great if we could get one, or even two, Filmwasters teams along. There will be a link to book places on the web site, but it's not up as I'm writing.

Here are the details.

Sunday, 27 March, 7-9pm, £5 entry, £7 with a raffle ticket
The Hog in the Pound, 28 South Molton Street, London, W1K 5RE

Join Viewfinder volunteers, photographers and friends for a social evening with a pub quiz and raffle!

Early in the evening we will raffle a signed Andy McNab book, V&A tickets and more! The pub quiz will have questions to suit all areas of interest. Prizes will be awarded for various categories, so there is something for everyone. Bring your friends, and let's make a night of it!

Transport: Tube to Bond Street, near Oxford Circus

http://www.viewfinder.org.uk

Give me a shout with any questions.

sounds great - I might see if I can make that.  Anyone want to make up a team ... Wil the questions be photography related?

Leon - It'd be great if you can make it. I think there will be some part Photography related, but not all of it, we didn't want to put non-photo geeks off!

Nigel.

Sounds like fun - I enjoy quizzes, despite not being the sharpest knife in the drawer.... ::)

I'd love to attend as it's my birthday on 26th and it'd be a good "treat". However, I live just a bit too far out of London to be able to get a train home after an evening in the West End (and I'm due to drive to Manchester for 09:00 on 28th) I'll have to give this a miss.

However, if you're selling raffle tickets as a fundraiser for a good cause, put me down for £5 worth and let me know where to send the money. Have you thought about setting up one of those "instant giving" website things? That way, you might be able to claim back the tax from UK tax payers......

I'm well up for this if I'm around in London. I have some rock 'n roll starting the week after for a few days so suspect I am free that night. Will get back to you once I've checked all 15 of our diaries and run it past the boss.

Sounds fun. Too bad I don't live in London.

Make a video of it and show it in the next video podcast !

Nigel,

I'm going to move this to the main forum - more people will see it that way, and the more support you get for your gallery the better. You're not making from this personally so I think it's fine.

OK it looks like just 4 for our Ed's team as it stands. If any Filmwasters fancy joining you'll be more than welcome. If you don't want to be associated with us and want to enter your own team then please do. The deadline is basically the day of the quiz.

Too bad you can't get IBM's Watson on your team  ;D

Though I think that would be, to some extent, cheating a bit  ;)

I'm sure that even with Watson on our team, I'd be able to dumb things down enough to still get half the questions wrong.

No, that's great news Leon. We've invited teams from The Photographers' Gallery, Photofusion & Hotsots Magazine, I'm not sure who's coming yet, so we need to keep the side up for the Filmwasters!

This looks like fun, shame I'm out of London that day - although I am utterly rubbish at quizzes so maybe not bad for everyone else..

Still laughing at "handsome quizmaster" billed as one of the attractions  ;D

I'm in full on trip organiser mode. ;D ;D So here's a link to the pub : http://tinyurl.com/5ra49x5.

I'll probably get there a bit early to help set up and grab some food, if anyone wants my mobile number just send me a PM.

If anyone else would like to come along last minute please do, the Viewfinder team is short of members so a couple of us could join them.

EDIT : I forgot to say it starts at 7pm, so don't be late....

We're all still up for it. Will be there in good time. I'll give Miles a call and see if he's going to make it or not. I still have your mobile number from Photographica, Nigel, I think. Looking forward to it...a lot.

Will there be a round on alt processes as relating to Polaroid peel apart films treated with instant coffee? I may do OK on that one.

Wow, Ed, it's strange you should ask there is. It comes immediately after the round on Toy Cameras at the turn of the Century and just before Medium Format Landscape photography in East Kent! Amazing!  ;)

I thought I might bring my Land Camera and some Fuji b+w film, I haven't played with it much, maybe we could do a few FW portraits. I'd better pack a flash as well, I might need to draw on your extensive knowledge. Looking forward to it, the first round's on me.

Ailsa: Shame you missed it! You'd have had a great time. It was all very civilised. We had room for one extra person because neither Miles nor Colin could make it at the last minute.

Nigel: Thanks so much for organising the night. We had a great time and I hope it helped raise some money for your gallery.

Indeed we did over £400, which is great thanks to Ed and Leon for coming along, and all the virtual support from everyone.  ;D ;D

Not only were the Filmwasters team victorious, we were also the only team taking any pictures! At a photography gallery quiz!
