Mad People ...
« on: January 03, 2011, 05:33:29 PM »
Encountered another crazy person today.  Went out with my tripod and new Christmas Zero 2000 6x6/9 and was accosted.  I was in a field taking picks of my favorite evil devil tree as well as pylons and old out buildings (Barton Estate south Canterbury) and a very jittery fellow just coundn't/wouldn't believe that I wasn't up to no good.  Then he started taking pictures of my and my car and kept staring at what was round my neck.

It was my Leningrad-4 light metre and when I unclipped it he took a pace back, all wild eyed !

At this point I told him he was mad and he should leave me alone.

Cameras seem to spook people more than ever ...

ha!   He probably was actually mentally ill.  those south Canterburitians are well known for their propensity to psychoses.

looking forward to seeing the pinholes of the evil devil trees though Miles.

Miles,

Unless he'd been armed or looked a bit "handy" I would have played to his stupidity / paranoia / psychosis and explained very calmly that I was taking photos of the pylons as part of a Russian plot to bring down the National Grid ahead of the planned invasion of Eastbourne as the Kremlin needs additional space for its pensioners.....

If he'd asked for more proof, I'd have shown him the name on your light meter.

These pillocks clearly need something else in their lives.....like a rubber room and one of those nice, big canvas jackets with the long sleeves and the leather straps.... ;D

A Leningrad light meter? What are you, some kind of communist?

I believe it was an old British philosopher who said it best, 'If you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao, you ain't gonna make it with anyone, anyhow. You damn Commie you.'

Hahaha!  I'm sure it was annoying but reading about it has been very entertaining!

Well, at least he didn't carry a 12 gauge shotgun with him :)

As they say, every village has an idiot :)

Lucky he didn't see the crazy contraption I have in my mind at the moment! I think he would have passed out :)

Well ... I did ask him if he thought I was a terrorist as I was genuinely trying to find out what vexed him so. This intrigue of mine prevented me getting angry, well until I gave up and called him mad that is ... So many questions about what I did for a living, if I was working yadda, yadda ...

I also had a Zenit E in the bag, an Agfa Clack and a Coronet 4-4, all guilty of crimes against photography in my hands and the Zenit could be a offensive weapon.

Leon - I live in South Canterbury too ... But I assumed you knew that  ;D  Hope to dev them this week from the Zero and a pinhole cap on the Zenit.

All that stuff about me being a Commie, all true I'm afraid Mr Tomato, and that's LENON & McCartney, not LENIN (.... oooooo, I'll get me coat)

Late D - He was a tad crusty and jittery, playing along might have turned him into a cereal killer  ;D, he went off and looked at all the places I'd been too, the poor love.

if i go to a heavier spot like the grand canyon, i often get older photographers with DSLRs looking wistfully at my cameras, a small tear at the corner of the eye.

It's quite funny because they think we are the crazy ones !
