We all knew it was coming, but it is a sad day none the less. I scanned an old Kodachrome slide this evening to post on my Flickr stream: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gothamtomato/5308320692/

The chrome is 25 years old and it looks as bright and juicy as the day it came back from the lab.

Just sad.

I've never shot Kodachrome in my life... but judging by how beloved it has always been, I know I've missed out.

Truly sad  :'(

My last roll was delivered to Dwayne's this morning and I requested the empty film can be returned with my slides.

I was lucky to have a few unexpected rolls given to me a few weeks ago, so had some extra time to enjoy this great film.

I still can't believe it is gone.  It feels like the loss of a dear friend.

There were few utterly reliable slide films back in the 1970's and early 80's when I was shooting film in the greatest quantity. However, despite a slightly blue-ish tink on skin and pinks and reds that went a tad "blousy" in sunshine, K64 was as good as it got, in my opinion.

I even had a wedding couple (the groom was a fellow photographer) that insisted I shoot their formal album shots on K64 - and then have the prints processed as Cibachromes. This was not the wisest choice due the very high contrast of the  Cibachrome process making it difficult to keep detail in the bride's dress without giving the groom one hell of a suntan.

I haven't shot Kodakchrome for years. Nevertheless, I will still miss it.

I guess its sad, although inevitable it would go so my sadness is only that people won't experience it for themselves. On a personal note I have thousands of slides dating from the earliest times most of the pictures of my kids were shot on it.
I have an article I wrote last year about the films demise which includes some really nice Kodachromes shot in 1939 at the new world fair:

Heres the BBC's point of view....http://www.bbc.co.uk/go/em/fr/-/news/world-us-canada-12095771

Kodak in Switzeland(where they went en-route to Dwaynes) stopped taking Their pre-paid packets on Nov 30th so that was my end date for kodachrome.I used the 5 rolls I had in oct/nov .I just need to get them scanned now.I am a bit annoyed with myself for coming too late to the kodachrome party ,what with saving them for that special occasion.

I had a final roll developed a couple of months ago, will look if there's anything worth posting

How about an impromptu Kodachrome collaboration?
