Topic: Stonham Aspal Village

Wondering if any of the Filmwasters live near Stonham Asphal Village in Suffolk?
Reason I'm asking is I've been doing family tree work for the past 15+ years and have traced my mum's family (Packard) back to this village in the 1400's.  Namely George Packard circa 1570 was yeoman farmer of "Coleman's" Whitsun Green.  Currently known as the Old wing of "the Red House" .

Ending this long winded post, if anyone lives nearby, I'd really appreciate a snap of the area if reasonable.

Hi Becky.

I live 42 miles away. I live in Essex and Stonham Aspal is in the neighbouring county. My plans for 2011 are to shoot some places of beauty and interest in East Anglia and I'd be delighted to drive through the village and take a few shots for you as it looks very rural round there.

Film is fine but do you want me to take some digi-snaps on my D700 as you could play with these to your heart's content. Also, is there any church record you want me to try to copy?

Hope this is okay. PM me if you have any specific requirements. I'll probably be heading over that way during the Christmas / New Year break. Maybe snow; you never know....!!

Regarding Leon's recent observation that a lot of FWers seem to be based in East Anglia....it somehow strikes me as fitting that even New Mexico-based Becky has some ancestry from that part of the UK. It could hardly be anywhere else.

It's about 15 miles away from me.  I've got family living nearby, visits no doubt to be arranged over the coming holidays......  I may use this as a handy excuse to leave the after-meal tv snoozing for a while.

Well anything Packard is what I dig for.   

So if you happen to be cruising around and in any of the graveyards of that area and find markers, they are most likely my elders.  The spelling can vary, which makes it confusing but still they are my folks.

I live not that far, I might be in that direction later in the holidays-I tend to be more coastal- Saxmundham up to Southwold-it might be a fun trip.

Thanks to all for the generous offers of help to make some photos of my ancestral homeland.  It is quite fitting as Ed said that I have roots around East Anglia. 

Now more than ever I have a burning desire to make a trip to see just where I came from. 
Just wish the elders were still around to tell me stories.

Hi Becky, hope you got the PM.

As promised, I've been to Stonham Aspal today and shot half a dozen PX100s via the SX-70 and half a roll of Fuji 400H Pro via my Nikon F5. Here's a couple of the SX-70 shots to give you a flavour. Hope you like them. With a bit of luck, the F5 shots will have a bit more detail and colour....

Please let me know where you want the rest sending / posting so you can get access / print, etc.
