Make your own cards for the holidays?
« on: December 07, 2006, 06:11:31 AM »
Who makes their own photo's into cards for the holiday season? Wanna show them off?

Each year my family begs me not to bother. They claim to love those cutsie Hallmark greetings, they laugh uproriusly at the cartoons of the little elf with his pants down, taking a whizz on the side of Santa's sleigh... But heck, even though I couldn't possibly compete with that stuff, I just can't help myself.

This one on the theme of another year washing past us. Next year is always gunna be a better one, yeah?

I did a very limited run of plt/pd prints made into cards last year. Didn't have the creativity of yours mind - yet another church interior! How about a Christmas Card exchange next year?

Every year I mean to do a card and every year I suddenly realise that I didn't take a suitable picture the previous winter. Next year i'm going to show a bit more originality by blatantly copying your idea DB!  ;)

Write in the snow. I guess if you want to use the snow you have to remember to take the pic way before you need it the following winter. Down under, the beach in summer is as iconic as the snow is in the North. Fortunately all I need do is head to the beach the day before I need the card.

snap snap..

Not only do I make cards and send to friends
-my husband and I have been making 12 month photo calendars for our families for the past 6 years.
It's always well received, but I must admit, a lot of work since we self publish.

We also make goofy gift tags with photos.

Yep, we probably need counseling of some sort.

Attached is a photo from the calendar.
** A lot of trees along the rural roadsides of New Mexico are randomly decorated for the Holidays.  You can be out in the middle of absolute nowhere and come upon a decorated tree---like this one.

DB--superb as always.

Becky---love that shot!

Carl--I'm totally up for that!

As for me, I always make my own cards.
In the midst of doing them now.
This year, used Cranes Artist Cards for the stock--can't get enough of that Museo paper. Lovely stuff.

You guys make me jealous.  My sister makes all her cards for any ocassion.  I keep thinking about it, then I fall terribly behind.  Although I do a snap of the kiddos, and put it on one of those photo deals to send out, so in a way I do make them.  Sorty of...  :)

susan, can I be on your list??? ;)

Love all the ideas here so far.  Becky- the tree is way cool in the mid of nowhere.

One year I got hold of (from Lidl, believe it or not!) some printed calendars with spaces for 5x7 prints to be inserted, one for each month. So I went through my slides and picked out some appropriate ones from my best, got them professionally printed and then spraymounted them to the calendar. It was quite expensive but I did four (I think) and sent them out to close friends and family.

Over the next year I got quite a few requests from people who wanted to be added to the distribution list, enough so that it was looking very expensive to produce enough. I also wasn't shooting as much E6. So I decided to swap to B&W and hand-print the shots on Ilford 5x7 RC - much cheaper!

Yes well... A man-week later I had 108 nicely printed 5x7's (9 copies of 12) plus about 25 spares, I was high from spraymount fumes, my back was out, I was very tired and I needed a new enlarger bulb!

Over the next year I got quite a few requests from people who wanted to be added to the distribution list...  :'(

Thank god Lidl stopped doing those bloody calendars!  ;D

<groan> Don't even think it!

However, if you PM me your address I'll be absolutely delighted to send you a print as a wedding present. (Given my printing it won't be much of a present, but the best I can do!)

it seems every year i want to do something really creative but then never get around to it. this year i'm making my own cards(actually, i'm still in the process of doing them) from a photo i took last year or the year before. but instead of just printing out the picture i've decided to do inkjet transfers of the image. this way no two cards will be the same.
