Anyone Developing E-6?
« on: December 01, 2010, 02:44:04 AM »
Am I too late? I'm just getting started (once that Jobo arrives) and it looks like the Kodak 5L kits have been discontinued.   Actually, I can't seem to find any kits, period.   Do I have to stop shooting chromes??

Freestyle has some E-6 chems, but not Kodak.

I've had good results with their products in the Arista line, so you might give them a shot.

OK, thank you Astrobeck & Sean - I did see that after I posted this, but knew nothing about Arista's line.  I will order right now!

I processed E6 for many years on a dip and dunk, probably processed 50k+ rolls/sheets.

I think this is the best 3 bath kit currently available, I always used Fuji's 6 bath and would prefer that.

There's more to this photography thing than meets the eye.

one thing about color developer is that it doesn't last very long, typically. so if you shoot and develop something and then don't develop again for a month, it may not be up to snuff.

Though I can't remember who among us has been using the same C-41 kit for many years?
The negs it produces aren't good enough for traditions enlargement but get corrected fine by the scanner software...

Sean, I realized that yesterday.  Wonder if I can mix as I go with any of these available kits.  Like the powder ones...  "Worst case", it will force me to really "waste film"!

Photo Utopia - thank you for your recommendation!

Francois, self developed c-41's resolution is inferior to machine developed?

Well, the resolution will be the same since it's fixed by the film. On the other hand, color balance is affected by development. So, for enlarger work on RA-4 paper, using old chemistry will throw the standard filter pack completely out of whack. But on the other hand, most scanner software come with a handy dandy "correct color" button which will make small work out of those out of balance colors.

Machine processors work differently than the little Jobo processor. In the fixer tank, they have a built-in silver recovery system which makes sure that the negatives produced are always top notch.

Oh thank you jojonas!  I've bookmarked it.  Just received my accurate digital thermometer (yes, I went digital instead of analog)  :D

May not have time until after Christmas but looking forward to it!

Was digging around and found some 5L Kodak kits for E6 at digital truth photo
http://www.digitaltruth.com/store/cart/E-6-Chemicals-p-1-c-375.html

Yeah, I know that name is misleading and would make most FW's run away, but they have a store in Houston, Tx. and  London.

I' don't have any experience with them so can't vouch for service but it might be worth looking into.
Their website looks pretty interesting as they have film cameras and supplies.  :)

Wow Becky, it was expensive, but I went ahead and bought two.  It must be one of the last places selling!  Thank you very much for sharing this discovery!

A reputable site - they're the ones that put out that Massive (b/w) film developing chart (by film and developer combination) http://www.digitaltruth.com/devchart.php
