Collaboration Gallery Number 22 - "Where Did My Life Go?"
« on: November 04, 2010, 02:10:21 PM »
All registered Filmwasters are cordially invited to participate in Collaboration Number 22

------------------------------------
Theme: "Where Did My Life Go?"
------------------------------------

What can we say? The theme works for us on several levels. There's lots of room for interpretation here and we can't wait to see what you clever people come up with.

There is no right or wrong in a Filmwasters collab, so step into your creative tutus, pop a bottle of Old Perculiar and start wasting film (and/or paper, glass, chemicals, tin, liquid light etc.).

There is no 'time served' rule with these collaborations so don't worry if you only registered with us a week ago. Join in. The work we receive is always diverse and high-quality and the more people that get involved, the better the resulting gallery will be.

Submission Deadline:  midnight BST Sunday, 5th December

Basic requirements: (besides being shot on film of course)

JPEG Requirements: One JPEG image. 72dpi.  Not larger than 600-750 ppi. in
length or width. No more than 200kb.

**ALSO INCLUDE**

1.ONE or TWO BRIEF SENTENCES explaining how you've interpreted the theme with this shot.
2.The camera, process and/or type of film used
3. Your website or blog address that you'd like listed

EMAIL SUBMISSIONS to Filmwasters [at] gmail [dot] com (please write "Life Collab Submission" in the subject bar so we can organise them).

Have fun with it.

I'm not sure that a bottle of 'Old Peculiar' is any good as a film developer.  However it is a great beer and I might have to use some to get the old brain lubricated to work out what to take for this collaboration.

I do have one idea fermenting at the moment and can't wait to see what others make of this.

Francois: The busy period seems to be coming to and end...although work is still driving me crazy! I'm hoping to finish editing the next FW video podcast. I got about 80% of it done in May or June

Mike: Continuing your idea, Old Peculiar may actually make a decent print stain. Anyone here tried staining prints with dark ales?

Jojonas: Glad you're planning to join in. Looking forward to seeing what you make of this theme.

An excellent challenge. I'm 44 on the 4th of December so the deadline is just right  :)

Astrobeckster: Great to be back. Still got a few things to do before I clear the boards completely and get time to get back on this board, but things are settling down finally. It was a very busy summer.
 :)

Karl: Youngster! I've been 44 since May. 1966 was obviously quite the year to be born :)

...and on a general point, I have no idea what I'm going to do for this collab!

44... that's like Joe's age x 11...
Or like you have a nervous tick when it comes to the number 4  :P

(What a pointless comment)

As for having no idea about what to shoot... I'm pretty much in the same boat...

No, but it makes excellent bread if you use 50/50 with water. Seems to give the dried yeast a boost.

Bl**dy hell, I hadn't thought of that. If nothing else it's a good excuse for buying some dark beer on my way home. I was going to be making bread tonight anyway...Leon's coming round tomorrow and I need to feed him.

Dark ale is also quite good when used for cooking beef. I used to take some and add it to the broth when making Beef Carbonara stew (not a regular recipe in my household... more like a once a year thing). It adds a bit of taste but since alcohol evaporates at a low temperature, you don't get any left in the food...

I've recently heard  heard claims saying against that. that you actually need a long time cookin' to get the alcohol to dissapear. I did a quick search and found this on the subject: http://www.ochef.com/165.htm
I just thought this was interesting since my gf is having a white year and we wondered how long we would have to boil mull wine for her to have a taste.

Easier to do non alcoholic mulled wine (like a mulled fruit juice)...
And yes it does highly vary because only *pure* alcohol boils off below the boiling point of *pure* water... that goes out the window when you're doing sauces and things. I first read that in a book called What Einstein Told His Cook :) sort of a geeky cookbook that I've not finished reading actually...

Sorry to hear your first attempt has crashed and burned, but I'm sure Plan B will be awesome!! As for my Plan A...let's just say it's still at the conceptual stage. No film has yet been wasted. It may yet all go horribly wrong!

Thanks everyone. I know it's a potentially challenging theme, but that's kind of the point. The FW inbox is slowly stacking up with submissions and I have mine in the can now too. Just one more week to go though so come on you stragglers. Let's do this!

Great stuff, everyone. Leon has begged for a last minute extension so I'll be getting the gallery online as soon as he sends me his scan. Feel free to send in any after-the-deadline contributions until you see the post here saying the gallery is online.

I expect it to be ready by either Tuesday or Wednesday evening, UK time.

Nope, no need for the work to be new. Some people like to use the collabs as an excuse to get out there and shoot, but if you have anything from the archives it's always appreciated.

Y'know it's comments like this that make me happy to be part of such a supportive little community!!

 >:(  :D

I did prep the gallery last night and loaded all the photos and text onto the Filmwasters FTP site so that I could edit the upload the gallery today at work.....and then guess what happened? Yep, work ended up being work. Like, all day, dude! Totally bogus.

Who knows, maybe tonight, Josephine?

Well, indeed, Francois!

So look people, it didn't happen again, but this time my excuse is that I was out boozing with some photographers (a noble pursuit) and then got home in time to fall into a slightly drunken, beautiful, warm slumber only to wake up after 5 minutes having remembered that I have to work some more. The work is done now and Voltaire is bang on the money, but then it is almost 2AM, so I guess tired feels about right.

I think galleries are always better when they go online on a Wednesday anyway....don't you?
