First Week in November... (aka early weekend thread).
« on: November 04, 2010, 09:13:04 AM »
We took a drive out the old road to Fuji-san, and met a lady who nicely entertained us for half-an-hour or so... She was 85, and had run her little restaurant since setting it up 50 years ago.

A thoroughly genki lady who insisted on preparing us o-cha and snacks. Polaroid 600SE & Type-665 (expired).

What did you shoot? Skj.

Still processing some pictures from Paraty in Brazil...

Taken with my Voigtlander Vito II, I find incredibly hard to get the focus right on this camera.

And there's the rub, Efke 127 is that much more expensive than any 120 that I was saving it for a "real" camera like my Yash 44, but actually I love the results from the old bullet so I should stop being such a tart  ;D

As a result I've just bought an Agfa Clack from the Bay, curved back and 6x9 negs, I'm hoping for the bullet experience from something that could take sub £2 120 etc ...

The Amish, I took a few pics and felt very guilty.  I can't share here as it was all on the "D word" shhhhh ...  :D

oK, finally I got my first roll developed here in the Philippines. The scanning is kind of terrible, it was done at the shop (as my scanning it's on its way), still I guess was not easy to scan as the shots were really dark. I went during all-saints day to south cemetery in Manila (I was advised not to go as people was drinking and gambling over there, but that was what finally attracted me to the place). Not knowing what to wait I just got some little money with me in case I was robbed (which finally was not the case). For sure I was the only foreigner taking shots, mmh, may be the only one shooting at all. People go to the cemetery and stay for one to two days withe their deceased, camping over the place. The cemetery was most of it pitch-black. I used the Canon A1 with an Ilford 3200. These were actually my first shots from the Philippines and I was quite nervous about it, so the first 20 shots were not too special at all. I calmed down and got little better...

That's beautiful Astrobeck. By the way, shooting infrared you just need the infrared film and then an " infrared " filter for the camera?

yes, for infrared just the film and the filter.

SFX is a pseudo infrared film so the processing is the same as black and white.

True Infrared is also processed just like regular black and white, although some pre-soak before developing.
I pre-soak.

Great shots by all!

Calbisu, your shots are fantastic. Im not sure I can pick a favorite. They are all so soft and dreamy and it seems impossible to believe that it was so dark where you were. I also cant believe thats Ilford 3200. How on earth did you get it so smooth? All the Ilford 3200 I've seen is just about the grainiest film I've ever seen in my life. I like grain, but sometimes with the 3200, its just too much, but Im just not seeing that with your shots. Some, yeah, but not like what Im used to.

Mojave! Ok I tell you what I did but do not tell anybody  8) I used noise reduction from photoshop,  ::) yep, I am guilty. I was expecting for the grain, of course, but at the shop (where they scanned the shots in absence of my scanner) I think they used too much sharpening so the grain became noise... if that makes sense, and was not appealing at all. So I decided to reduce it and then got the smoothness, which I like, as a result of it.  :-\ Anyway, that's how it is!  Few more shots from the all saints day in chinese cemetery, which really looks like a chinese village!! No noise reduction this time ; )

Just had a look through the thread - yet another great collection:

Skorj - Japanese lady looks very serene. Beautiful tones and contrast.

Sapata - I love the door / handle. Focus looks spot on to my eyes. Also, the middle shot of the London series is a stunner.

Jess - I've never seen a "veggie" dog before - great capture. Also, the colours of those owl bags are just awesome.

Miles - Great series but I have to say the water / gorge shot is a real class act. Hard to follow that...

Suzi - Spooky!

Photo Utopia - here in the UK, you're extremely lucky if public toilets are working. Usually "avoid a all costs"..

Wavebeat - "Wonderful Time" is a great picture. The contrast of traditional and modern dress is excellent.

Phil B - Beautiful colours in your shot. I saw my first SWC last weekend. Drool....

Miller - superb lighting in that alley; warm tones but a hint of menace...

Calbisu - the one of the chap in the hammock is a top shot - but it's also a great series.

Astrobeck - those trees....!! Just beautiful. (Note to self - have a go at IR - looks beautiful).

Fwank - interesting concept. Really like the head-dress shot.

Oh my word, so many beautiful images, I wish I could comment on virtually ALL of them!

Skorj - what a beautifully captured moment.  Thank you for sharing it :)

Sapata - I just love the light, shadow and tones on your 1st image!

Miles - your new englandry made me gasp.   that river!!  that house!!  Ohhhhhh!!!

Photo_Utopia - Hilarious!!  This made my morning!  :D

Phil - how I love your color tones - - those reds!!  They go so well with the subject matter.

Miller - love that pola, so... (for lack of a better word) cosy!

Calbisu - that 2nd on e in your b/w post is my fave!  Beautifully exposed.  And I love the color tones in your 2nd post :)

Astrobeck - like Father-Mother-child - - truly a 'family tree'

Fwank - the last one looks like flame licks coming off the back!  Marvelous!

Late Developer - I'm a sucker for images from a coastal life - love the 2nd one best :)

Love these weekend threads! Such different styles from everyone...

fwank - love that 'the world takes an abrupt turn at the end'

calbisu - I love 3200 film, but have found scanning it is a nightmare, it prints really nicely though. Really like that umbrella picture.

late developer - the seaweed is lovely.  always wanted to visit Skye. jealous now.

Phil - Amazing colour. Really like that.

And, millers alley shot, and the pictures from Miles bullet, and Suzi's angel.

And. The infra-red trees.

Cool beans everyone  :)

You mean your dog likes cabbage?
I know many parents who would just love it if it worked that easily with their kids :)

Yeah... She like cabbage, but it gives her gas! She's not strictly a veggie but honestly, she'll eat pretty much anything, except for tooth paste and oranges.

eh, her expression when being questioned about picking the cabbage.

Gary, I really like the new sprocket camera... I guess the design is based on an old bakelite camera I can't remember the name now... maybe a Coronet ? Please post some more pictures !!

Another couple of pictures taken with my Rolleiflex SLR, this place is about 5 minutes where I live in Crystal Palace and I'm scared that one day will disapear...It's a nice old building, I guess it use to be a small factory or small bussiness, I don't really know... but all the original features are there and I thought it would be nice to get a picture before all go...

It isn't a really easy site to photograph since it's a very busy road, I should go there when the streets are more calm...
