i have this sinking feeling that these cameras may just sit on a shelf somewhere instead of being used and loved like they deserve to be.

Even if they are not used, a camera is still nice to look at and  handle.  I have a good collection and every month or so i take them out  and fire off the shutters move the apeture rings, and give them a little clean.  I find storing cameras a problem because i am always worried they will be stolen.
