Putting scans together (for triptych)
« on: October 20, 2010, 02:01:11 PM »
Hi,

Does anyone here know how do you take 3 scans and put them together in Photoshop to create one triptych jpeg? I have 3 portraits that I'd like to put together (side by side) in one jpeg.

Thanks!

I create a new blank file at the same resolution as the files you want to stick together, but at just over 2 times the width.

I open the two or three files I want to use, , then select the arrow selector from the tool bar.  Then just click and drag the files onto the new blank document. Each one will be added as a new layer and can be moved independently until you get it where you want it to be.

I'm sure there will be other ways of doing it, but this is my version :)

For a triptych, you can open the first and second image, send the second to clipboard and extend the canvas size of the first one the equivalent of the size of the second and paste the image in the first. You can then move it around until satisfied. For the third, just redo from start.

Or, you can make an empty image the width you want, set guides at 33% and 66% and simply paste the images in.

Leon took the words right out of my mouth.  You can manipulate opacity of each layer as you try to line up any duplicated edges and then either mask out or erase the portions you no longer need.

Try this and adjust for three instead of two images. There is similar info on Flickr.

Faffing about in ps is far too much like hard work for me, I only make a triptych if I like 3 corresponding frames, simples  ;D

Thanks for all the info!

I'm going to try it this weekend & if I can get it to work, I'll post the results.
