Recent shot of me at Ship Rock in New Mexico. The 50mm on the Universal is ideal for arms' length selfies, except for the camera weighing 10 pounds.

I was looking through these posts again, it's great to see everyone, and I realised I hadn't posted one myself! I hate this picture, I had to take it for a project at a local gallery. I am physically incapable of smiling in a photo.

Oh BOY have I had an awesome time reading back through this thread this evening (instead of working, which is what I'm supposed to be doing). I was in on it at the start and then missed the next 18 months for whatever reason (including Skorj's bump from last year and the suggestions that we make this sticky), but have enjoyed reading through it again and seeing all of the new posts.

Peter's shed shot is still astonishing...and I agree, he could have done with a pint of something in his hand.
Lawrie's work environment looks like hell....it must really get you down, mate  ;)
Phil clearly loves it. The whole thing.
Nigel....the word 'lemons' springs to mind.
Mauricio, that's a toilet, dude. Get out and take some pictures in another room sometime!  ;D
Miller, this little excerpt is for you:

Tell me something. Haven't I seen you with Jose somewhere before?
Which Jose that?
The same one that send the police after me, and I shoot him off the bike.

To be honest though, I loved them all. Cheers.

Finally, and in honour of Sean's dedication to the cause in posing for that shot with a 10 pound camera hanging off his wrist, here's a second photo of me ("Ambassador with this gift you are spoiling us!"). This was taken in late 2010 by Leon and is notable because it's on INSTANT FILM and also because it manages to make my son look like the devil...which he's not....not all of the time anyway.

I got my portrait taken at Focus On Imaging in Birmingham yesterday so I thought I'd update this thread. This is scanned from an 8x10 paper neg and then cropped slightly.

They used paper for the neg and then they used the paper neg to produce a positive image afterwards in their mobile darkroom (well, OK, the neg had to be developed in the darkroom first, obviously). The neg has significantly more detail on it than the positive though, so when I got home I scanned the paper neg and then inverted that in P'shop to produce the image above.

Nice Portrait Ed.

The image seems exceptionally sharp so, any idea what technical details where used with the orginal paper neg?  exposure time, pre\post flashing etc?

Mike, I think you're confusing me with someone who knows what you're talking about  :D Leon would be better placed to answer those type of questions. My only answer as to why it's so sharp is that it's an 8x10 neg and the camera apparently had a £3000 lens on it....both of those will be key factors I'd have thought. I'll alert Leon to your questions though and ask him to add any tech info; he spent a few mins talking through the process with Neil from Harman while we were on the stand and we got a trip 'backstage' to their darkroom so he probably has a pretty good idea how they cooked it all up.

Me!

tech details (for Mike et al):

8x10 paper negative using Ilford Cooltone MGIV RC glossy paper in a HUGE camera with a bloody expensive lens on the front (not sure which) and a variety of flags lights and strange upside down tent things and silver umbrellas etc.

They were using a 00 mg filter on the front of the lens as contrast was a problem.  I don't know if they were pre or post flashing (didn't ask, sorry), but if they were, it was not in-camera, so maybe in the darkroom. before they loaded/ or before they develop.

The paper neg print was dev'd in a dry to dry machine (ilfo lab thingy), then contact printed onto the same paper. They tried the pearl surface, but this lost too much sharpness, so the glossy was best.

My positive print is really sharp, but this is a scan from the neg to try to get more detail out.

Hope that helps.

So here is mine from Focus.

I quite like it, as Ed said "it came out well for an ugly bloke".   My brother said I look "camp" my mother lept to my defense and disagreed  - "its more genteel"    I was so shocked at this sleight on my manhood I had to put my kitting down.
