Ed - I don't know why but that photo of you makes me want to give you a hug! Its lovely!

Andrea - I honestly could not love your portrait more! Its so scary (in the hauntingly mysterious sense of the word, not the 'I am going to eat your brains/slash your guts open' kind of way). I looked at it for a really long time.

Its only in the last few years that I have actually started to enjoy doing the odd self portrait. I think there is something kind of liberating about it (like Phil said) now. Maybe its something to do with coming out of awkward teenage years too, and helping to finding out what kind of person I actually consider myself to be in the real world

This one was more just about playing with the film (polaroid fade to black). I needed to shoot something close to hand to test it out and my face happened to be the nearest thing!

It's not that amazing. Plus that's my crappy watercolour paper... ran out of already cut-down to size Arches Platine which is nice and smooth Need to get out the big paper cutter and spend a few hours cutting down the next batch of paper.

plus that's a really unflattering angle for my double chin. eesh. And my chest

I think its great too, I think its the feeling of tranquility in the eyes, you just look relaxed which considering it can't of been comfy on those apples
I also like the textured paper....
As for bad angles that's a little too much self-depreciation, I wish I was braver, I think there are only 3-4 images existing of me since I was 14 (when I took up photography)
I'd like to try another, like the one Bill Brandt in a mirror without seeing the camera.

Come on Heather... the picture is really good.
I think you underestimate it a lot. It makes you look a little chubbier... so what? I still find the pose quite nice. And no matter what you think about it, it won't change the fact we all think you're sweet and imaginative (and pretty gutsy to do cyanos!)

OK, a quick shot taken yesterday. I decided to frame myself for a shot. Only thing is I had to use my favorite voice activated remote triggering device... which also goes by the name "mom"
Polaroid 600... first pack I tried was totally cooked so I had to take another one out of the fridge.

I think by this eighth or ninth attempt I was getting bored. At least I was actually in the shot (which I wasn't for a couple of the earlier attempts).

I wasn't thinking of any others work when I shot it... I just took an old frame I had found that was lying in the garden shed, dusted it off and used it... as for the mesmerizing technical talk and strange device naming, it's always been a geek hobby of mine

peter, i'm curious, would you say that's as true a self portrait as you could have of yourself...in that situation with that expression (which is perfect)...is it one your family would look at and nod and say, 'yes, that's him alright'? or can you think of another situation that would feel more right?
