Episode 15: Welcome Back to Film – July 2010

"In what must qualify as our first ‘serious’ podcast, Ed is joined by Matt Wells from AG Photographic & Bath-based photographer, Phil Bebbington, for the first of 2 podcasts. This episode focuses almost entirely on Matt’s thoughts and experiences from working in the photo retail industry. He’s knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the future of film. Ed & Phil supply the background colour. The next episode will profile Phil and his work and continue the debate about the future of film.[/tt]"

Matt, Phil and I got on so well that we chatted for just under 2 hours in the end...far too long for a single podcast. I therefore decided to split it into 2 and release them a week or so apart. This episode's a change from the usual FW podcast fare (much more sensible and 'on message'). I hope no-one is offended by the lack of puerile humour and organisational chaos.
:D

As usual, please report any download/technical difficulties via this forum thread.

p.s.
Also in the multimedia pipeline is the next FW video podcast featuring a tutorial from Leon about how to get 2 rolls of 120 onto a Patterson dev spool and a feature from Ailsa about how she got her Mojo back.

Excellent. Really enjoyed that. Strange that at one time during the podload I felt I heard Springwatch creeping in. Must have been Phil's dulcet Briftol tones.
Looking forward to the next one.

Glad you enjoyed it, Andrea. Funnily enough, Leon noticed that you were online on Skype when we started the call and was going to see if you wanted to join in, but then his broadband died (which is why he wasn't on the recording) and I didn't have your ID listed in my Skype contacts.

Re the springwatch reference...it might have been the car alarms that were going off on my street throughout the evening. If you listen carefully you can hear them intermittently throughout the show.

I will be downloading soon...
I have a confession to make I've only started downloading the podcasts in the last week, I listen to them whilst traveling to work (i cycle)
I have a bit of a back catalogue to get through but I think they're a blast-very entertaining.
Well done.
regards
Mark

Pity I couldn't have joined in too :-) However, my skpe phone thing was not plugged in and the connection is not brilliant here - especially when there is a blow - as now! Another time?
Being from Bath Spa originally and having lived in Briftol - Clifton don't you know - I take a keen interest in Mr Bebbington's work [and accent].

That was an interesting podcast guys! It was great to hear the stories and perspective of a retailer.

Urban: Glad you liked it. Matt is a passionate character and by the end of the conversation he had me feeling very positive about the future of film. Quite an achievement.

Andrea: There was a short discussion about your origins and accent which I edited out due to time constraints. I now wish I'd left it in. Sorry!

Mark, glad to hear that you're working your way through the back catalogue. Just make sure you don't try and catch up with the video podcasts as well on your daily cycle to work!

Wurzels! Ah well, I've been called worst - I was bricking it so I'm surprised I was able to say anything. A most enjoyable experience - see how I have put your next victim guest at ease, Ed ;D

Just listened to it while developing a roll of film. Great stuff. Totally agree with what Matt had to say about film and scanners and how easy it is to get into using film without a darkroom. That's one of the reasons I now hang around here rather than one of the less enlightened forums ;)
