Places People Don't Go
« on: June 22, 2010, 12:51:24 AM »

Until recently my job as a homeless outreach worker had me spending a lot of time in places people don't go. I encountered these spaces on my yearly hike through the woods to meet people living outside. For the most part they are places that your average middle class person doesn't go.

Do you have places you like to photograph that are places people don't go?

I love night photography and I'd love to spend the night in big cities taking pictures,  not the ordinary turistic pictures but getting into the "dirty" areas and photograph those areas as it its.

I'm with Sapata - there are MANY places I wish I could go.... but for safety concerns I dare not.  (4 murders last week, 92 for the year...).  It can be really limiting sometimes.

Do this in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul or Taipei. Seriously. Just a few blocks North of Taipei 101 you've got a parallel world, a very humble working class neighbourhood with tons of eateries and assorted night life. But also very safe.

Where in the States do you live?
92 murders is like what we get for the entire province in a year!

I think what makes  worse is the fact that the people notice that you're from de area, especially when you're carrying a camera.  I thought about doing  a toy camera project at night but who on earth would believe that I'm being serious carrying a Diana camera with me ? I thought that it would bring the attention even more...
