What Tank & Reel to start with ?
« on: June 09, 2010, 09:22:37 PM »

Hi,

I went to Silverprint in Waterloo today (as guided by the good people at Filmwasters) and picked up some 127.  What a place, one could really spend in there  ;D

It got me thinking though that it is time I had a crack at developing my own, in a bag so to speak.  So, I'll need a tank and reel that can do 35mm/120/127 ... There are a few on the market, what's the forum's pref ?

Cheers All for the guidance so far ...

The Patterson plastic type ratchet reel will cover all three sizes (they are expandable) and is by far the easiest type to use. There are various makes that these types are sold under - jessops, kaiser, patterson, jobo. They are all fine. If you're wanting to do 120, you'll be needing a 2 feel tank.

Cheers Leon, I'll have a look at the Patterson.  The Midlands Finest !

I'd also like to take you up on your kind off of a masterclass at some point that's convenient to you.

Like Leon said, Patterson reels and tanks are a classic in their own right and are worth every penny.

I third the Patterson tank (I use the Jobo equivalent). Although the concept is intriguing, I think Leon means 2 reel (and not 2 feel...) in the above post.  ;)

LOL. What a great typo. I blame iPhone fingers.

Miles - I'll drop you a line soon.
