OT: My Holga almost melted!
« on: May 26, 2010, 11:16:56 PM »
Just thought I'd share this with you. Today's a sunny cloudless day. I thought it would be perfect time to go shoot a few snaps... that is until I opened the front door and was almost run over by the scorching heat! Hot enough to melt a Holga in your hands... Ouch!

To be more precise: 40?C and no wind, no air, no nothing. Even the weather channel was telling people not to go outside because it was dangerous for our health... and even warned that being inside with air conditioning was still dangerous... Yikes!

So, no pictures today...

If you want, I can send a bit of wind over your way :)

They say we beat an all time record... feels pretty strange for cold Canada... The closest thing I've found to how it felt was trying to breath straight from a hair dryer set on hot... made your stomach turn.

i regularly shoot at 110-112 in the summer (42+ Celsius) and nothing has ever melted! though polaroid film acts a little funny.

i always find it odd that it hits 100 in the midwest and 20 people die, and here it's over 100 for 4 months out of the year and nobody gets hurt.

Thing is you get dry heat. Here, we have the added humidity from the Great Lakes which makes things though. Also the fact that we're not used to the heat makes it worse. People with asthma, heart conditions, and other respiratory problems often end up in hospital simply because not everyone here has air conditioning. We're so used to the cold...

your telling me! It was so cold in  my house when I arrived home from work yesterday it took me about 2 hours after making a fire to get it warm..we heat with just wood so if your not home for 8 hours your seriousely out of luck....today I am actually seeing some blue sky and temperatures look a bit above the 40 mark...I guess thats somewhere in the 5 to 7 celcius range...still cold in my opinion!
