Weekend 3rd/4th April
« on: April 02, 2010, 07:16:01 PM »
I went out with my Diana after not using it for a long time. It felt quite nice to just shoot and not think too much about aperture and shutter speed. Unfortunately I totally messed up the development. Still I was able to get this one shot.

Cool. Lots of nice 'movement' in the lens...which is why I like them more than Holgas for this type of shot. Also, it looks like an IR film, but I'm guessing it's not. Sweet.

Thanks Ed. No, it's no IR film, it is an Agfa APX 400 developed in Caffenol-C. And I did some postprocessing, too. So maybe that's why it looks like that.

Miller, from your PE reference I'd say you weren't expecting/wanting the snap to turn out like it did. I'd be chuffed if I'd MEANT the photo to turn out that way, but less so if I was expecting something straighter and less experimental. Those weird dots at the bottom don't exactly scream, "Finished product!" to me.

...but I do really like the shot. Go figure.

Great work people.

After a million years in the planning,  Today i took my first shot with my Shen hao.   Being totally Impatient I took the mountain to mohammed (in this analogy the mountain is the camera and Mohammed is my mother...not sure if it really works...anyhooo)   What im trying to say is that it was my first time using the camera, my first expereince with Pola Sheet film & a Pola 545i back. I had no tripod,  I had to stick my bro next to the window and use that light -these are all basically excuses.

Im happy with the picture...becuase it worked.

Trying to get to grips with Rodinal at the moment. My first film shot with the intention of using this developer.  Expired FP4+ @125 in Rodinal 1:50 for 15 mins.

Taken with OM2n using vivitar 75-150 mm zoom.

Another excellent range of photo's on this thread.

Thanks for the comments.... The film is quite 'naughty' and I was in a haste to get to grips with it before I was halfway through the pack... Success, as I got the image I wanted from it and I know its use in Miller World.  Will tell more in the PX-100 thread.

Calbisu, nice hair cut shot, cmdrray, nice work with the F, especially the last shot.

Thanks Diane.   You will be pleased to know that this was actually the second shot, the first went all the plan...until my brother pointed out that after i had taken the shot and i closed the shutter, I then (for some reason) opened up the shutter again before pushing the envelope back down.   A rookie mistake......but Ive done it now -so hopefully I wont do it again

And Gregor - this was some expired (2007 i think) 52 I snagged on ebay....  Although I was dreaming of some nice tones,   with the harsh light from the side not sure I was ever going to get it...  patiece isnt a virtue i was blessed with though!!

Very nice work, everyone :D And thanks for the kind words, Miller. Your PX100 shot looks much better than the ones a customer of ours did at Pro Photo Supply yesterday (lots of un-even sepia
fuzziness..)

Here's a photo from a few weeks ago, taken with a 1939 Graflex Speed Graphic 4x5 and a circa 1897 Rochester Optical Symmetrical f/8 lens; Kodak Portra VC400 film in a Calumet roll film holder.

As always a great show of work here.

Calbisu - The lady with a baby inside her is wonderful.

Damion - love that portrait - I will post as soon as I get home.

Mike - I have the utmost respect for anyone who develops their own film. Keep up the great work.

Vicky - You show us one great shot after another. I love this and I am determined to use my polaroid back more.

And it's me again. I went out with the Diana again yesterday. This time I didn't mess up the development. I just didn't correctly close the development tank so I had Caffenol spilled all over the place. Man that stuff smells bad and is really, really brown (who would have guessed  ;) ).

Family snaps, Filmwasters style  ;D

It was sunny on Friday and I had the day off. I saw the long-forgotten (but much-loved) Graph Check poking out from under some chaos in my 'study' and decided to try out some of the Type 72 I discovered in the same room 2 weeks ago whilst cutting back the undergrowth and binning all sorts of unwanted crud.

The kids were running around outside so I wasted some film on them. For me at least there's almost nothing cooler than using 5x4 Pola sheet film. The ritual. It's like being in the masons without any need to wear an apron or be slightly sinister  ;D ;D ;D These photos benefit from being seen at the larger size so click on them if you want to do that. The first one is a scan of the print, the second and third are goop scans of the neg.

Ed - sometimes the group of images works so much better than the single best of the bunch as that will always alter dependant on what the viewer brings to the party.

I've been enjoying playing with the Lubitel and this is one of my favourites so far. It just looks like she's trying to drag that bench away.

Woolf: Faaaaaantastic shots and sad to see a Euskaltel rider down. Summer of last year the Tour of Britain finished in Central London and my boy talked to one of their riders after the race. He was great to lil CJ and gave him a team bottle which he still cherishes. Good idea with the G00SE and FP-100 also.

Wolf; I went to Charlroi photo museum a couple of years back and there were two fantastic exhibitions - both related to cycle races [Amstel was that weekend and we were coming back from that]. One had a wonderful C print of the back wheel of a rider - the rest obscured by dust. The other was pictures of the fans along the route. Both great.
I shall be cheering for Russell Downing at Amstel :-)

BTW; your images are fantastic!
