Foiled again by my arch nemesis, the N-B switch!
« on: February 10, 2010, 06:51:46 AM »
So I put in a expired roll of Kodak 100 speed film from 1978 into my Holga.  I was happy as a clam snapping away when 3/4 of the way through the roll I noticed the damn switch was on B!  Ugh!  So depressing! These are a few shots I was able to salvage from utter gross over exposure with my epson V700 and a lightroom.

when i was young, holgas didn't have B settings. we just had to fire the shutter 14 times.

I think we've all had our share of fortunate and unfortunate accidents with cameras.  Instead of what can be salvaged, I think these accidents can get interesting when they lead to a breakthrough in the work - that may be for a single image or can be incorporated as technique in a larger body of work.

Of the three posted there's some interesting things going on in the second image that could inspire some additional work on it - either in darkroom or digital processing - rather than tossing it off as a loss.

Forgive the ignorance---what does the B do (as opposed to the N)?

B=bulb. Long exposures, as long as you press the shutter release button/lever, the shutter stays open.

When I read the title, I was wondering what type of switch they were using in New-Brunswick  :P

(OK, stupid "having a head cold" kind of joke... relating to the Canadian province renowned for bad weather)
