These are terrific!  For some reason they remind me of the very first photo ever made, by Joseph Nic?phore Ni?pce, in 1826!  Maybe it's the grain, or your printing process, or the indistinct character of the person and objects you captured.  And again, this was just a "gut" reaction when I first opened the file; that second one is truly amazing!

Great stuff!

as to my scanner problems as per a different thread, my assumed fix knocked out the neg scan and now only the flatbed works: these are neg scans as positives and inverted.  more reasons to stick with a wet darkroom...

zeiss ikon Ikonta B (523/16), Ilford 3200....

[edit: scanner is back up and running for the moment. replacing photos with decent scans]

and, a hassy color shot from the same location. thought the candle lights would come out different with the t* lens. maybe the exposure wasn't long enough for that t* effect on lights in lowlight shots..

Some excellent work here. I especially like Andrea's prints, Gregor's first candle shot is lovely. Great portraits again from Hookstrapped and Vicky. Also really like the last one from Calbisu. And Laura's bunny is fantastic.

I'm continuing to play with the Gakkenflex TLR. I think it was Vicky a few weeks ago that mentioned a Gothic style so I'm going to try and focus on that over the next few weeks. Here's some shots of Wenlock Priory which I visited  last weekend and processed over the week.

Howdy...here are a few from the second roll taken with my new toy...an early 70s Nikon FTN Photomic 35mm SLR with a Nikkor 105mm 2.5 lens...$40 for the pair...and in excellent condition? Sure..sign me up.  The film is Fuji Super Press 800. Hope everyone is having a great weekend! :D

Thanks Mike, and I really love what you're doing with that camera, it has such a unique look...i also hope you'll do a fairly close portrait with it one day just because i'm curious to see how it looks :)

Al, thank you!
and I agree about the crop, the hair (which didn't really work :) detracts in the flickr version.

Otto, i never used to be that interested in landscapes but the good ones are so inspiring...your blue hills falls into that, gorgeous.

Thanks Vicky,

I'm still not totally comfortable with the Gakkenflex. I love the look of the images I'm getting. But, it's hard to focus as can be seen from the last image above -- I think I'll need to bracket focussing. I'm also getting loads of scratches on the negs which are not too bad in areas of detail but are a pain in the sky area. I've just put some insulating tape in the film chamber area so we'll see if that fixes it.

I do have a couple of portraits which I'll try and scan this week.

Hey Vicky,

The pics I've been posting recently are with the Gakkenflex.  Here are some of the better close-ups and portraits together.

I finally spent some big money on film camera gear, after many years of only buying cheap equipment.

I blew over ?50, all in one go, on a single camera!  ;)    - A Kiev 6x6 SLR.  It's a chunky old beast, but seems to all work OK; took it out for a test roll yesterday on a walk by the seaside.

Thanks.  No problem focusing if you mean getting the middle third slightly offset to the left in focus.  :)

Wow! A very exciting weekend's haul yet again. Great stuff, people.

Al: Which Kiev did you get? The 60 perchance. I sold mine a couple of years ago to raise money for a Bronny. Glad I did so, but I mis the old beast now and then.

Otto: Great to have you back. LOVE those landscapes. Assume we'll be seeing more of them on your blog?

I haven't had a second to think about photography this weekend, so am posting a few blurry, low-light-slow-film Land Camera snaps from last weekend's Mass Photo Gathering in Trafalgar Square, London. They're aren't great, but they're the only ones that came out  ;)

BTW, the third photo features our very own Sicilian lens-meister, Salvo Toscano.

mike, hookstrapped, the gakkenflex sounds a little like my great wall, can barely see a  thing through it so focussing is a nightmare, but when it works it's stunning, very 3d-ish :)
mike, i don't mind the scratches so much, they can sometimes add to the image but typically they're never where you want them.
and i loved the last of your pics btw, the blurred pillar worked really well.

lovely intimate portraits, hookstrapped!, i really like how close you go.

al, some of my favourite pictures have been taken with kievs :)
(not mine, other peoples)

Thanks, Vicky!  There's this cool video on Bruce Gilden here

and a quote from it I like a lot is:
"Why I want to go close is because I want to take the person's soul."

I very much like the closeness of your portraits, too.

We're working on a very short inaugural Filmwasters video podcast that I shot at the demo with Leon & Salvo, so you'll a little bit more of what went on there when we finish that & get it posted.

These are gorgeous, especially the first one. And I love the make up as well. You are lucky to have this muse!

When I used to be a picture editor at a large stock agency, there were quite a few photographers who used their kids as models, (and made a very good living doing it)!

It's a 6C (the older one with the shutter button on the "wrong" side).  Got some great looks from passers by when using it with the eye level finder, I think they thought it was the camera equivalent of Dom Joly's mobile phone   :D

you're right, i'm very lucky to have her, though she's (naturally) far more impatient now....there's much more bribery involved than when she was small :)
and maybe i'll look into the stock thing...we could do it as a joint money making venture?

also just found out i'm featured on NPR's blog if anyone cares to look ...(the pictures were their selection)
