Weekend - 4 December 2009

OK - I'll kick this one off.  Foggy mornings this week that play sly games with my light meter....

Another reason to love Fridays and the weekend galleries.

Love the shot of those bags on the pallet in front of that old door!
That's a keeper!

Rush Hour is also a classic!

Love all the photos...!

An oddly suggestive shot with ID-UV in the Kowa Super 66 w/40mm lens.

My first pix from my first roll thru my new (to me) Canonet QL17 GIII.  I had to install new seals, so I shot a test roll of Tri-X at Missouri History Museum and St. Louis Art Museum.  It was a grey and dreary day, with just occasional breaks in the clouds.  Still getting used to the whole rangefinder process; haven't shot one in about 30 years.

But at least I have something to post for the weekend!

I have some new pics to show - been quite a while since I have!

these are a few experiments I've been making with some cheap close-up filters,  I'm hoping to use them for something else next year, but i am getting to grips with them first so I get no surprises.

and a couple of new holga pics taken on my new holga - I've put the lens from my old holga onto it, but surprisingly, I;m no longer getting the strange double exposure thing on the bottom right of the frame as I was.  Not sure I like the shots without it.  the tripod socket and bulb feature are welcome though (although i did lose about 6 shots on the first roll I took because the Bulb switch kept turning itself on - it's all taped up now)

a more comprehensive lot can be found on my flickr page....if they float your boat.

First one is a kinda cool car (unless you have to drive it) outside havanas bggest boxing gym...Chocolate.

Second is a chair in the museam of the revolution,  fidels glasses, che's trousers, rauls bag...and i opt for a lone chair...go figure - im sure it was a heroic chair supporting the peoples army...possibly anyway.

That Seat/Fiat 60 is brill. Spent some time wandering round Havana in one with an off-duty taxi driver. This was in his own car - like this one and it rattled and banged but got us there. To the baseball match. Only it was the wrong day!

Looking forward to browsing your other images Mr Rice

I'd be amazed if Leon wasn't using his Bronica. Can't remember if he has the SQ-A or the SQ-Ai.

...and CUT to my own contribution which showcases the fact that I had my first bit of fun with photography - Filmwasters style - in what must be almost a year. I was getting too involved/angsty/frantic/unhappy with the fact that I had no time left in the week to do any of the stuff with photography that I really wanted to do, so I took a few steps back in recent months and have come out the other end in a more relaxed mood. I played around with some Polaroids yesterday and discovered two things:

1. Staining Colour Prints Is Interesting:

Expired Polacolor 125i, stained & then scanned. Curves in Photoshop to add a bit of drama.

2. Don't Give Up On The Goop:

New technique makes all the difference. Goop side scanned and converted to b/w in Photoshop. Make the yellows lighter and the cyans darker.

Both shots taken with my Land Cam 360 using expired Polacolor 125i. I will be exploring both techniques further in coming months so get ready to be bored senseless  ;) More like these over on Fickle.

Hello all,
Here are a few recent ones, the first two were taken with rolls of Tri-X that expired in 1968; the Gear works photo was done with Agfa APX 100, and the last two, taken with NC 400, are from my October trip to Tokyo. Everything was taken with Kodak Retina 1a, except the gearworks shot..that was taken with a Zeiss Ikon Tenax. Hope everyone is having a great weekend...:D

I have both actually (smug git smiley) but this is on the sqai.  Vignette is from the filters (I assume) and exaggerated post exposure.

Some really great work here again this week - pixtu, the sheep in the road is superb - shot of the week for me ... has a Ravilious feel to it.

Pics from my show opening on the 4th -- all the pics in the show were shot on film, 35mm and Diana.  It was great.  Real good turn-out (facebook ads work, along with promo cards where the likely suspects congregate), the music was fabulous.  Saw some old friends I haven't seen in a while, the Film in Baltimore flickr group was out in force...  a very nice night :)

couple of late Sunday shots...  Type 54. The somewhat blurred one was a user error - didn't have the lens position locked in place and moved it down a tad as I fired the shutter. But I rather like the result... The 2nd shot, a 4x5 pola version of the Diana shot in last weekends thread (or the one before that).

I love the weekend threads, such fine work.  Finally got around to looking at some scanned in negatives this weekend.  The first with Kodak Brownie Hawkeye and the remaining with my Banier.
