It probably got lost in translation for me...

Still, the results are quite surprising on both the optics side and the film processing side (1982, that's getting old).

I got wondering about something late last night: did you expose at 800 or did you follow the 1 stop sensitivity loss for every 10 years of expiration? (which would mean exposing it to about 120 ISO)

Seriously Francois?  (1 stop for every 10 years) - - I'd never heard that rule of thumb and I do have a lot of 20+ yr old film stock!!

It's been running around the net for some time now but I never really got to chance to check it out. I don't know if it's only for B&W or if it applies to color too... or if it's just a hoax...

I know the expiry date is on there for a reason... but it's not like yogurt :)

I think it might have something to do with the earth's ambient radiation which increases the film's fog level which could render it less sensitive... or at least that's the reasoning I put behind it. I must say this isn't an exact science and it depends a lot on how the film was kept.

I think Sean (moominsean) could be better at explaining this phenomena. I know he has a lot of experience using very expired emulsions with quite good results.

When film gets that old there can be a whole lot of "suck it and see" or if you like a more cavalier approach "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead"

I know the girl at the lab just loves it when I bring something outdated or "made in China" to have processed :)
It always throws out all their profiles and she has to calibrate by eye :)

I've seen this 1stop/decade guideline before, so when I shot some ektar from about 1980 something tried it and exposure was very good.

An interesting film this Fuji stuff. Being old, I consciously over-expose a stop or so. Behind and old lens - these are from my Ricoh Auto Half - it gets some great colors and general artifacts.
