Just had a look at the preview and I'd agree it is superb. Hope the quality of the paper and print is good.
I think the quality is just fine. It isn't the kind of paper you'd get if you were having something printed by one of high-end houses in Italy, but to get that you'd need $50K to spend having a few thousand books printed. That is one of my 'someday' goals, but it's a long way off - (and with the economy the way it is, that someday keeps getting farther off!).
But I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this Blurb book. I liked the paper stock, and I thought the quality of the printing is good. I haven't seen the originals they were printing from, and I'd be curious how close the photographer feels they got to his originals. But then, whenever you're printing something, the end user never sees the originals that you're going from so they have nothing to compare it too. Not having seen the originals, I'm perfectly happy with the book.
And of course, what it is all built on is the wonderful photographs. I have it sitting on my desk right now & it makes me smile to look at it.
After reading the recent article about print-on-demand publishing, and seeing this book, I've been inspired to try it for myself. I have an old project that has been sitting in boxes for years that I want to pull out and turn into a book. Originally I shot it to be a book, but couldn't get the needed funding (that was before this kind of democratic publishing was possible). Now I'm thinking that this is the way to get it out of the boxes and into the light. I've set a deadline for myself of June 1, to have it edited down.
